Changing Mission Name-is it possible?

I designed SP mission saved it as "ABC" mission. I wanted to keep the original as a template , not wanting to reconstruct all of the AAA and other detail around various airfields for  each subsequent mission. However, when I open ABC in the editor and "save  as" another mission under a different name. In game , the new mission saves under the original name " ABC ". The new mission Name only appears when open the mission and the screen appears the describes the mission objective etc.

Is there a fix for this ?

In the editor, click the mission name in the object tree view to the left. Set the mission name to whatever value you want.

If you've already booted up IL2 since you changed the mission name, you'll need to delete the mission name cache. I cannot recall exactly which file it is, but it's either ctreecache.eng, mtreecache.eng or ttreecache.eng from the data directory. Simply delete these files; IL2 will recreate them when you load the missions.

Delete mtreecache.eng.

Very possible Frequent_Flyer.

I've used this procedure below for 6 years without ever having the issue you're having, screwing around with a mtreecache.eng file or more importantly, losing a mission period.

Open up the Mission that you wish to save with another name within the ME and change the name within the Properties window to '01_New Mission Name or whatever' as long as you don't have any mission named that within your game.

Then <Save As...> '01_New Mission Name or whatever' within C:\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\Missions\.
Or if you work out of a personal folder. I use 'Tips'. Then it would be C:\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\Missions\Tips.

Without doing anything else.
<File>
<Open> '01_New Mission Name or whatever'

Move something in the mission. Can be a Mission Begin MCU or Timer. Just change the mission in some way that doesn't affect anything and then <File> <Save>.

Reopen the mission make your adjustments and test/play as usual.

Good Luck with your mission design.

The data folder inside the IL2 installation directory.

Dunno if someone mentioned this: you can open your ABC in the ME, select all (L-Cntrl A). With all objects selected you can save it as Group file.

You could use that for importing the lot in a new mission you want to make or ad to an existing one.

Good to go then.

This procedure will also work when changing venues such as using the SP to create a Campaign or MP mission. Always make sure you are not using the same name in any mission venue and double check your Mission Type and the location where you are sending the new one.

Thanks for the info. I was not aware and this is a big help. I need to raise my level of awareness regarding the capabilities of the ME .
