jollyjack Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 Is there a way to measure height of a water tower, lighthouse and other blocks in the ME? This for placing effects etc on top of 'em. Also is it possible to make a search light shine during daylight?
Jaegermeister Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 You can measure the height of a water tower or other tall object by placing an effect on top of them and adjusting it until it is right at the top, then noting the height in meters. Searchlights in daytime, not that I know of. 1
AEthelraedUnraed Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 You can change the height of the objects in the "ground" category in the mission editor. Place one so that it barely breaches the surface at the location of the tall object, another one at the top, and measure the difference.

That's how i did it so far, time consuming though.....
JG4_Deciman Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 Hi there Did some 'parsing' of the '.mgm' files and managed to extract the sizes... Y is the height File is 'csv' conform All fields are separated by ';', numbers are decimal '.' as decimal separator Deci Measures Report.txt 2
DD_Friar Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 As far as I was aware the Y axis is locked in the editor, there was a "campaign" a while back to "Free The Y-Axis!" Are we now saying that heights can be adjusted? Is it all objects or just some? I know the observation / barrage balloons can but did not think anything else could? Can they be changed in the mission file via "the back door"? I need to do some digging.....

Only the height of effects can be changed. Barrage balloons are considered a type of plane. They have altitude, direction, etc. Blocks are placed on the ground automatically. 1
DD_Friar Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 Sorry - I re-read the OP, I get what he means now - for adding smoke to the top of chimneys etc.

Hmmm, yes AND no After having participated in different missions and noticing some 'strange' blocks inside those missions (bunkers flying in the air) I know there is a way.... And I also know that way is NOT possible from inside mission editor... Whenever moving a group of objects inside the mission editor it seems, the 'height' axis is NOT ALWAYS changed for objects inside. Noticed that for 'Grounds' (inside mission editor) and also for blocks (from observations by participating in missions) And I also noticed that even resaving a mission (resaver OR mission editor) would NOT place at least grounds (and maybe blocks) on ground automatically So it seems that you can edit the Altitude (Y Axis) of any (some?) blocks by using a simple text editor and editing the '.mission' file Afterwards a resaving is done (resaver or editor) And if you do not touch the 'modded' object inside the editor directly it seems that the 'modded' height is not changed to 'on ground' Deci Edited April 27, 2022 by JG4_Deciman
