Hapo54 Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 ...it is not displayed despite being activated in the realism settings...it was there but disappeared when I toggled to external view, and I can't get it back...
Gambit21 Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 Maybe the sim has had enough, and is deciding for you that it's time to grow up and turn that gamey stuff off. ? 3 2
Hapo54 Posted March 30, 2022 Author Posted March 30, 2022 ...well, I guess I am out again in that case...I have had the game loaded for two days and still can't get it to run right... ...it is activated in settings but does not appear during play... ...without the targeting function I cannot find anything, and it is no fun...
Gambit21 Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 Yeah that’s odd. Your speaking of icons correct? Hopefully someone can help you get it sorted.
69th_Mobile_BBQ Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 If you don't know, H toggles the HUD. I toggles the icon information. Icons are also 'adaptive'. Sometimes, depending on field-of-view and environment conditions, they will fade out or go invisible. If the target goes into heavy clouds, the icon might go into "hide and seek" mode. The same can happen if the enemy plane goes into your low-6 blind spot or is directly underneath you. They also only activate within 10km range. Also, if you're using the quick mission builder and have ground targets enabled, the game will prioritize showing the icons for the closest ground targets if the friendly ground spotter trucks contact you with orders to attack ground. Enemy plane icons will only show up near ground targets if they are in close proximity to you. This is from things I've observed so, I could be wrong about how the icon work exactly. Perhaps someone can clarify anything I've gotten incorrect. 2

Riderocket Posted March 31, 2022 Posted March 31, 2022 Pushing "i" can turn them off and on even when enabled in difficulty settings
Hapo54 Posted March 31, 2022 Author Posted March 31, 2022 (edited) ...thank you...I will try that... ...that is exactly what I was looking for...I suspected there was some sort of toggle...I pushed a lot of things at random and could not find it specified... ...I didn't say that it was not, but that I could not find it... ...at my skill level the indicator is important...skill may not be the right word...talent maybe...???... ...I am just not very good at spotting things, and I am in this for a good time, not to develop new skills, although that will hopefully occur in time... ...FWIW I do not use the aiming assistance function, although I do like to turn on the auto pilot to see WTF I am supposed to do... ...FWIW I have been trying to play this for years...the last version I have any time in was Forgotten Battels... ...my last two attempts to play Great Battels failed behind unreasonable stuttering during game play... ...I have just built a system specifically for this game, like I did back in the 90's for Janes WWII Fighters... ...it seems to run smoothy most of the time, but with a weird ripple or wave of stutter/artificing affecting some panning-motion views, almost like a shock wave running ahead of the plane...this is not distraction enough to ruin the game, like the slide show effect of previous attempts was... ...most of the time I use a MeLE Quiter2 fan-less minicomputer...the only purpose of the new system is to run IL*2... ...it has enough fans in it to sound a bit like an air conditioner... ...it is not an exotic system...it features a basic flight control stick, and single 4K 60 HTZ monitor...we do have a RTX 3080 GPU... ...we still are not running any ultra settings here... Hapo54 Posted March 31, 2022 Author Posted March 31, 2022 ...thank you...I am not booted in currently... ...I can appreciate how simple this question must have sounded but there it is... ...I suspect strongly that pressing "i" will sort things out...I would very much appreciate/like being able to toggle it on and off during a flight...
Gambit21 Posted March 31, 2022 Posted March 31, 2022 If you can fly and hit “I” key then you’re golden.
Lusekofte Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 Well I think [H] also do something in regard of icons. Funny I flown this game from the time we only had Lagg , and never used them that much that I remember. I pushed I and H to get rid of that annoying compass thingy to the left
