BOBP & BON Maps Abut?

Recommended Posts

Do the BOBP & BON maps abut each other? Do they share borders, so that future maps may be a combination of the two, such as heavy bomber missions from bases in SE England with targets in the Ruhr area in Western Germany?

If they do, wouldn’t it be reasonable to assume a combination of maps could create future BoXs?

No, not quite.

There's about 1,500 kilometers between them. Just a bit of a distance.

EDIT: BON... not BOM. (My reading glasses are on the way)

Approximate map dimensions, we have not seen the final BoN map but it should be close to this

With both maps, you could conceivably take of from Brighton, fly across the channel and end the mission, air start on the edge of the BoBP map and proceed to bomb Cologne or similar target and then return, end that mission and airstart on BoN map and proceed back across the channel and land back at your origin.

It would take 3 missions to do it. As many complaints as I hear about missions being too long, I can only imagine what people would say about that. LOL :o:

Exactly. I think it would be really cool to join them, don't get me wrong, but realistically I would take advantage of that very rarely.

There were lots of typhoon and mosquito missions from the UK to the Netherlands, that's one thing I wish we could do.

Or Mossie Intruder missions.

Agreed definitely not something that'd be very popular or flown very often, but if someone made a "Long range" campaign using said 3 mission system to represent one sortie, I'd probably fly it at least once! lol. Maybe if the campaign were an Anthology of sorts, having some P-51 escort missions, Mosquito intruder missions, Boston bombing raids all in 3 parts each, That'd certainly be a unique experience

If you took roughly 100km North to South from Norwich to Ipswich and stretched east to Leipzig, you'd end up with a roughly 100km x 800km map that included almost all of the 8th AF bases, as well as many of the most critical daylight bombing targets (the Ruhr, Hannover, Brunswick, Magdeburg, Halle, Merseberg, Leipzig).  The total area of that map would be equivalent to BoBp or BoN and the middle chunk of it has already been built.

If they ever decided to offer maps as DLC, that would be an interesting choice, and probably not so difficult to create.

Would a 100km map work....thats only 10 "blocks" down...bit of a narrow channel, or not? You would have no real way of keeping defences guessing or being able to hide.

I often do raids where I fly a good 60km away from any objective to avoid detection on finnish server. I think a 100km strip channel would make me claustrophobic?.

But then you need the Ruhrgebiet be represented as an industrial area, which it was, and not the more rural area, the Rheinland map shows it. The way it is now, it wouldn't make sense to fly missions to it, except you want to go cow hunting.

Hide ? bomber/GA hiding... who plays thouse dirty tricks, your suposed to go strait to target from your spawn point.

With a game that struggles to stay at real time as soon as a realistic bomber formation is in flight, don't even hope of speedup time, so if you have enough spare time to play for 6 hours in a straight line with no action then..... why not ?

But not for me.

However, having maps that overlap each other allow for a smooth transition from one map to the other in a ground support based campaign.

Hmm... well, if we talk them into re-creating the Channel map from Rise of Flight :) That'd bridge the gap, wouldn't it?

Yeah, I tried that once when I was twelve - haven't had time since :) Also, I wonder if the SWOTL map was actually 1:1 scale in the first place!
