im waiting for the final release to get a new computer, so right now im stuck with this poor config..

Do you see anything that I could do to improve my FPS... in multiplayer, when there are 33 players I get 15-20 fps sometimes, in balanced mode.

What would be the best drivers ? any tips/settings known to boost the game a little..

I know how easier Il2 got back then, when i went from 40 fps to 90+ fps.. it was night and day....   FPS make a huge difference in combat, especially for snapshots.

thanks for your help

That doesn't look like a bad system, I don't know what FPS to expect but I suspect you might have to dial back graphic settings. And always, always, run the latest drivers from nVidia. This isn't the olden days of "this driver works best for this" - the latest drivers are always best from nVidia, the WHQL ones. Not betas.

As far as settings, you need to go into Nvidia Control Panel and be sure you don't have settings that are adding strain on top of BoS' settings. Such as AA, make sure either BoS AA is running or the settings in nVidia CP are running, not both - and with that card - I'd suggest no AA. I don't know your resolution, but you should be maxing out at 1920x1080. I'd suggest a little less just to get more framerates, resolution has a huge impact on framerate. Ensure your nVidia CP settings are set to 2x Anistropic filtering at max. You can test and play with that value, but Anisotropic will hit that card pretty hard. Make sure multi-display/mixed-GPU accel is set to single display. If you have multiple displays, that card can't handle it with this title. Make sure threaded optimization is on (again, all of these last suggestions are in the nVidia CP). Make sure texture filtering quality in the nVidia CP is closer to performance.

There is a lot of shader usage in the terrain for BoS. The 570 has 480 shadings units vs 1536 of the 770. That will make a huge performance difference, and so you'll need to be running BoS at lower graphic presets than you'd wish. High is pretty much not going to work. You'll probably have to run medium with that GPU.

Lower your settings... I had a worse setup than you, but had no fps problems..

i7 875k, gtx 460 and I was fine on low, since upgrading to gtx760 I'm playing on ultra. Your gpu is you're bottleneck and there's no way around.

OK, I'm now at home and can write something more proper. Bear in mind this is just what works for my PC, every setup is different and your results may (and, let's face it, probably will) differ from mine.
Here's my basic setup: AMD Phenom 955 @stock (3.2 Ghz), 8GB 1600Mhz RAM, GTX 560, Windows 7. It runs IL2 on Ultra at around 35 fps.

To every PC there's a hardware and a software side, and to maximise performance you need to keep both in good shape.

Hardware performance can be increased by a.) buying upgrades or b.) cleaning them. In my broke state, the latter is what I go for. You do so by using compressed air. Buy yourself a can of the stuff (most electronics/hardware stores should have them) and spray away! It removes even the finest, most cohesive dust particles, in the hardest to reach areas. By removing dust, and in my case (pun intended), bits of cake, airflow is improved, temperature is reduced and the components stay cooler. This results in better performance and longer lifespan. Usually I get around 4 fps more by doing this on a bi-monthly basis.

The software side is where you start entering a minefield of pseudo-information, opinions and sometimes dangerous (for your PC) advice. I'd leave the Windows registry, and overclocking alone, since this can cripple your computer if you get it wrong. By all means experiment, but at your own risk. Here's the basic stuff I do, without being an expert, at minimal risk:

a.) Defrag and disk cleanup. The absolute basics, but necessary not just for gaming but a smooth running system in general. Always start here.

b.) Uninstall programs you don't need/use. Sounds obvious, but often their processes run unchecked in the backround, sapping resources.

c.) Use programs like CCleaner, AVG TuneUp etc. (beware, some are more reputable than others) to get rid of registry errors, and generally tune the software side of things. Some of them sap more resources than others, so it's up to you to decide whether their benefits outweigh the fact that they run in the backround.

d.) Here's what's got me a good 3-4 fps: remove Windows's visual effects. In the control panel, go to 'performance information and tools' and in the top left go on 'visual effects'. Untick all of them. It will remove features like aero, and make your pc look like windows 98, but because your system doesn't need to render all those fancy graphics and animations, you get substantial performance boost.

e.) In the control panel, again go to 'performance information and tool' and 'adjust your power settings' to maximum performance.

f.) Before you run a game, open the task manager and stop any uncessesary processes. Personally, I'm quite conservative with this, since I can't always distinguish which ones are windows processes, and which aren't. But the ones I usually close are things like Chrome, Java Updaters etc. the stuff you know you don't need at the moment.

OK, so that, in no particular order, is what I do to keep my system stable while increasing fps. All those changes bring about, in my case, about 8 fps.

One more thing about Nvidia settings and IL2 settings. I squeezed about an extra 6-7 fps out by tweaking them.
In BoS I have everything on Ultra, with 2x Anti Aliasing, VSync on and fps limiter at 50.
In the Nvidia control panel, my settings are as follows:

By setting the Anisotropic Filtering settings to 8x (instead of 16x) I gained about 6 fps. By Enhancing the AA to 8x, whilst having the BoS settings at 2x, gave me a nice amount of AA without a huge fps hit.

Sorry for this long, ill-structured ramble, I hope some of it helps. It's designed so you can pick-and-choose.

Regards,

Leaf
