Attacking Havocs with 30mm Mk108

Nice shooting.

What are your thoughts on the 30mm MK-108?

Obviously it is quite effective. It seems to me that there is a lot of "splash" damage to the exterior of the aircraft - I would think the damage would be more localized and concentrated internally, with blast occurring more outwardly from the inside.

Not a complaint, more a comment on realism.

Anyway - nice vid.

I noticed this too when editing the video.  There seems to be a lot of "splash" damage to bombers in particular, but I was also firing both the 12.7mm and 30mm guns at the bombers, so it is possible that some of the wing damage is coming from that but I doubt it.

The 30mm is a terrifying weapon to have used against you as the damage is immense and the fire rate is quite a bit higher than the 37mm guns.  It is a lower velocity round, though, which can make judging lead a bit more difficult.  Also, the lower round count means you have to be very selective with your shots or you'll find yourself out of ammo quickly as compared to the 20mm.  However, a single hit from the 30mm Mk.108 can easily be a fight ender.  I tend to use the 20mm because the higher velocity lowers the amount of lead and the greater round count allows me to be a little more liberal with how much I use.

It is impossible to feel undergunned with the Mk.108 when 2 rounds obliterate a P-51.
