SvAF/F16_Goblin Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 (edited) Hi, Just wondering if implementation of Direct Storage is on the radar to improve loading time and in game handling of textures. Edited March 26, 2022 by SvAF/F16_Goblin
Props Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 Me too. There have been a plethora of new and interesting software/firmware updates to how graphics cards and Windows handle gaming graphics and code of late from AMD, Nvidia and others that I suspect would be of potentially awesome benefit to IL2, this new Directstorage being one of them. And it will work in Windows 10 as well (I am in no hurry to jump into W11 as there always seems to be a long "breakin" period for new Windows OS upgrades as they work out the launch bugs). Of course the big question is how much of this can be implemented in IL2's engine. I use a Nvidia (EVGA) 3080 and they have a host of interesting things going on that may really boost performance in flight. Even though my system handles it perfectly fine as is who doesn't like a bit more power and speed at their beck and call? I am sure Jason and the Devs are aware of all these new opportunities and hopefully will implement what can be used when their schedule allows it. Directstorage does seem to have some real benefit potential though, especially when loading missions, static objects, etc. in game.
56RAF_Roblex Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 It is very impressive if you go by the numbers that you are given but TBH I *saw* no difference. When he ran the non-direct version I saw a brief pause as everything rendered and I thought that was going to vanish but the direct version had an identical pause while the last item rendered, OK I accept that with a model ten times the size I *might* see the difference but then they should have included a much larger example.
