Super Shiny, Glossy Now

With latest system change metal finishes I did look super glossy. is there a graphics setting I can change to remedy this? or do I have to change Alpha Channel? Example:

After:

I think you didn't transfer the painted area to the alpha. That's why you have everything in the same gloss. Your alpha is probably the same color everywhere.

i see that the rudder is clearly of different gloss, and it was different, before the patch.

Before the patch, P-51B skins couldn't get a shiny metal skin at all. Now it looks fixed, but some skins need adjusted.

It looks like the alpha layer doesn’t match up with the markings on the actual skin. You can get a very nice, reflective aluminum look that is less translucent than your picture shows by making the alpha a darker gray with the markings being a darker shade of gray also than is the rest of the skin.

Yeah. your alpha doesn't match the skin and  everything is too bright.

Here's a quick example of alpha vs skin and the results:

Skin:

Alpha:

and in game results:

Everything that is painted made darker on the alpha, (maybe a bit too dark). Bare metal is lighter gray. That gives a bit of depth and tells the game how to use the light on the surface.

Thanks for your input. Yes, I use single color for alpha. Never could get hang of editing alpha despite excellent tutorials in this forum. Nevertheless I could get a decent shine with correct values as shown below. I'll just slowly edit the single color alphas until I try the detailed edit proce4ss again.

P-51B had issues before the patch. P-51D was fine.

You can just copy the layers from your painted template, make them darker gray and drop them on the alpha, in the exact same spot.

Just out of curiosity, are you working on the Alpha layer that is part of the template we use to paint on or are you using the separate multi-layered Alpha and then importing that into your template? You said you're using the single color alpha so I'm guessing you might be struggling with that part. Using the multi-layered Alpha is essentially the same as painting a skin only in gray scale. It's actually an excellent tool and rather simple once I got it straight in my head how to use it.

I start with either the basic template or an existing dds file  converted to a bmp file. In both cases I edit in Gimp adding different layers as I go. When done editing I flatten the image and save as a dds file. Then, as stated above, I edit the dds's alpha. I kept having problems using the directions in tutorial but will try again. I know I must be missing somhing that should be obvious.

Thanks again!!
