Quest 2 is a great option, if you don’t have a problem with Facebook it’s a great MUCH cheaper alternative

Pimax is an interesting option and worth a look, the wide FOV is very immersive.

Reverb G2 would be a great first headset.

It really depends on you what a "good VR headset" means. Are you looking for a high resolution/image quality? How much do you value comfort? How much are you willing to spend on it? Besides this issue, the poll quoted above also suffers from bias, so I'd not attach too much value to it beyond finding out what headsets are used much.

Please tell us more about what you're looking for and how much you want to spend, and we can give a better recommendation :)

Having previously and currently owning many of the HMD on that list, I'd still recommend the G2 for a simming HMD at this time, with increased FOV facial interface mod asap.

A RTX 2070 could struggle with the G2 resolution (not talking about higher devices).

You can go to the G2 and reduce the %SS.

In my case I prefer the Index. Here you can compare the pictures taken from both devices, but FOV, edge-to-edge clarity and performance is great in Index.

The 2070 will need to run ~ 50% steam resolution. That's where I ran a 1080 Ti with a G2. It worked well enough at the time.

Keep in mind with G2 you can also reduce the refresh rate to 60 Hz and gain performance and ability to run some higher detail.

Some folks don't like 60 Hz and others do, apparently has to do with the affect it has on your vision. I never cared for it as I got a swimmy feeling when using it at 60 Hz. Others have reported no problem with it.

IMHO for flight sims Reverb G2 is the absolute sweet spot consider price and what you get.

A wide FOV is a must for IL 2.  Depending on your budget, and if you can afford a Pimax 8kx, then that's the way I would go.  Reason being, Pimax will reimburse the full amount you paid for the 8kx if you buy the new Pimax 12K.  If the new Pimax is what they say it is, it's worth it.  Buying the 8kx will also give you the opportunity to figure out tweaks etc. etc and simply learning about Pimax software.  By the time the new 12K is released, you'll be a Pro HMD VR guy.  The big thing to consider is budget and bang for the buck.  If money is not really that big of a deal, get the 8kx, and upgrade it to the new 12K.  That's what I'm doing.  Hope this helps...good luck...

The 12K looks pretty sweet and I'm definitely interested though it smacks of the marketing/management department saying one thing and the engineers all pulling their hair out. ?

There are two things when it comes to Pimax that I always keep in mind:

1: Pimax Math

2: Pimax Marketing

These two things are very misleading and never seem to add up when looking at possibly getting into a Pimax headset. They just do not add up, and are the main reason I myself have never considered getting a Pimax headset. They are kinda like used car salespeople, or those late night advertisers one might see on TV. I don't believe hardly anything they are saying.

You are right, and in general when the reviews come out after the product launch it does not hold to the hype. So let's say that their products are WIP still for some time to come.

But we must admit that if they could deliver what they say with a less cumbersome headset and if possible with no cables then it is what we would dream of.

Probably they will not deliver as perfect as they say but one day will come where one of these companies maybe PImax or any other will reach this kind of expectation and when this happens I will be ready ?

Totally agree, that was the main reason I abstained from getting one for a while but no one else was offering that FOV.

I rather think, being a Chinese company their marketing is caught up in their selling culture, ie: make it out to be better than it is in reality. The trouble is most of the rest of the world finds it underhanded and deceitful but they don't seem to realise, I believe they simply think that's just what one does.

I think it's the same reason the 5K+ doesn't fit well with my big Caucasian nose, they're in a bit of a Chinese bubble.
