What shells to use against Tiger tanks for this to be effective?

it depends on which gun/tank you are using, on which side you are attacking the tiger and at what distance...

With the 152mm, the HE shell is sufficient, even at long range, on all sides. The same for the 122mm.

For the other guns (75mm and 76...) it is better to be below 500 meters, and use the AP by aiming at the sides of the tank, below the turret

I have killed Tigers with the Sherman using APHE, by getting behind them in towns, popping out from behind the cover of a building and shooting them pretty much point blank to the left of the left side muffler, and a bit below the engine deck height.
