Customizer171 Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Hello! My game always update automaticly, if there is an update available, when I start it. Is there a way to choose manually when you want it to update? If so, where do I find it?

If you have it running through Steam, you do not even have to play it. As soon as you go online, Steam will update it automatically.

I run it as stand alone, only use Steam VR.
Ghost666 Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 You can start the game using the IL-2.exe file, found as shown below.

No Ok, I just tried, and it does not work. It won't let you play without updating. Even offline. Good thing this hotfix came out so I could find out just what I don't know. Edited March 18, 2022 by Ghost666 I was wrong
R33GZ Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 It does work. I have no phone line at home and a terrible cellphone connection. I update every now and then by taking my box into an Internet cafe to run several updates at once. There are however a few caveats to this. 1. Run game from the il2.exe - not the launcher 2. You have to play in offline mode. Do not click on online play. If you select online play even once, it will check version with the master server and will not even let you continue offline untill your version is correct. Trust me, it does work. I am still playing 4.702b. 1

R33GZ Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 You can successfully hit the play online button using the il2.exe in between updates and you will be fine, but if you happen to try to connect once an update is released, you are committed to letting the update process take its course - hence why I play offline only now ? On a side note. It is odd that career mode is online only. I noticed all I had to do was connect to the server once, then disconnect my phone and I was able to happily play career mode - meaning it could actually be played offline. If you look at the offline quick mission generator you will notice also that the missions are similar or in some cases practically identical.... So REALLY, there doesn't appear to be a good or logical reason why career mode can't played offline. Just my 2 cents ? 1

I think it is a leftover of the old campaign system, in which you had to play aircrafts and weapon loadouts free to use. Here the server had to know your current state to give you access to it. But, yes, it doesn't really make sense anymore. If you want to play a career completely offline you can try Pat Wilson's Campaign Generator (PWCG). Once downloaded, you don't need an internet connection anymore, as it gets installed into your game. 1
