IL2 VR: frametime spikes and subsequent stutters make VR unplayable

Recommended Posts

Hello,

ever since getting my Quest 2 I've been having this issue where I can reach 72Hz consistently but its not smooth as my frametime, idling at about 13ms according to the oculus performance overlay, spikes up to 24ms. This introduces noticeable stutters and make it impossible to play for longer than 5 minutes at a time.

Has anyone experienced anything similar to this or knows any fixes?

my specs:

2070 Super, Ryzen 3700X, 32GB RAM, Oculus Quest 2

Did you use Oculus Debug Tool or traytool to deactivate Async spacewarp?

Also if you arnt using opencomposite yet its a great tool aswell!

When using Opencomposite instead of steamVr I gain way more stable FPS (over 10fps)

What I also forgot in the beginning is that in Setting screen the settings on the side that say Medium High, and Ultra also matter, even tough it does not change the other settings, it seems that if you set it to Ultra, for VR it becomes really tough. You can try that on Medium aswell.

Try Oculus Tray Tool, deactivate ASW.

Put this in:

I:\Program Files (x86)\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\bin\game

My brother has the Quest 2 on a GTX 1080Ti and he put it in last night and "transformed" his experience re stutters etc.

Back-up your game folder first of course.

You may also check to see if you have Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling turned on.

Sometime the computer goes stupid and starts demanding the GPU stop what it's doing to schedule itself...

That version is pretty old. The latest is here

The best configuration is also pretty headset dependent so anyone trying this should find a guide. (0.4 radius is a good start)
