Has anyone else noticed patches of extreme blooming on the horizon at certain angles only with an open canopy in VR? Not sure if this has always been the case, as I usually have the canopy closed but for some reason my key binding suddenly isn't working ?

The game froze on me last night. I had to shut down the computer to exit. When I reentered I had lost all key mapping. Other settings were not effected.

I've experienced many crashes and game freezes since 4703 release.

@Jason_Williams from a closed thread:  The stars and planets have been reduced as much as we can without causing artifacts and strange blinking.

Eluding to another thread, could we not maybe add a little twinkling to the stars?  That would be so much more immersive.  Exploit the bug, so to speak.

Devs I must say now it is how it should be from the beginning ;) in VR!

Thank you for this 3rd fix, it is a blessing for VR! Clouds are great, one of the best in business, bending is almost gone and stars are acceptable. Sun is also modelled in better way in VR. It is real pleasure to flight in any time of a day now. Moreover game seems to be smoother... is it possible or just some circumstances on a finish server now??? :)  Whatever, great job!

Do you plan to make some tweaks to the nav lights now?

On Sturmovik Stars

Alas, thy kindling light hath been bedimm'd

Wherefore art thine shining eyes sorrow-rimm'd?

Tears, dolorous tears, engulf thy timid soul

Drown, drown, the embers die, shroud'd as shadows roll

Swallowing all in creeping darkness, stilling the beat of my languid heart

'Til the last light winks out, and with it, doth my love depart.

*ahem*

Yeah, I need to get out more.

4.703c patch

  • Excessive image posterization when the player is wounded at graphics presets lower than Ultra has been fixed;
  • Vignette effect color posterization at graphics presets lower than Ultra and enabled Cinematographic Camera option has been reduced;
  • Visible star size has been reduced, especially in VR;
  • 'Black hole' artifacts removed from the night sky;
  • Light blinding from the sun has been reduced;
  • Ju 88 C-6 gaps were fixed;
  • Ju 88 C-6 first person view limits increased (the default snapview file has been updated so you might need to delete the current Ju 88 C-6 one and copy the default one from data\luascripts\snapviews\default);
  • Ju 88 C-6 crew oxygen masks shouldn't appear and disappear again when flying at a high altitude;
  • Havoc and Hawks campaigns were updated to correspond to the new (more accurate) dawn and sunset times.

Awesome!  the snapview issue also affects the JU88A4, is there any chance of this being expanded as well?

It could well be that VR needs dedicated solutions or game versions. But then there is a problem. VR remains a very niche minority market.

VR is no longer "niche" within the flight simulation genre.

In addition, at some point the vendor-specific APIs which enable high-fidelity high-resolution visuals on HMDs with acceptable frame-rates should be used so we don't need bleeding edge graphics cards to play in VR. There are enough dedicated VR titles now that demonstrate what is possible. The use of lowest common denominator SteamVR libraries provided a usable stopgap so that VR was possible in BoX. But it is really showing its weaknesses now.

4.703c patch resolved the cloud banding issues I was having. The game looks absolutely beautiful. I sometimes just fly around admiring the ambience - its a bit of a rude awakening when someone shoots at me!  Excellent work Devs, and congratulations to all.

Thanks for the 4.703c patch, I didn't expect it. Can't wait to try it out after I get home from work.

Work gets in the way of IL2 time. Soon I'll find a remedy for that.

Got up yesterday morning and sat outside on the deck and took one look around the sky and damn, the color banding in the clouds and skydome just sucked! Jeez I wish the higher powers that be would fix reality!?

Then in the afternoon I got a hotfix from IL2 GB and life is good again on my PC at least. Awesome work as usual and quick too! The skydome, clouds and sunglare look great with not single blemish to be seen. Jason and the crew deserve credit for taking care of the community in such a timely manner. Thank you

very much.

I hope that our grandchildren... would see the game update (patch, fix...) where enemy AI will stop hitting the ground without any reason..."out of the blue sky" !

That suicide bug started with CoD and continues from update to update in Great Battles ?!?

On the eve of BoN we still have ground-blind enemy fighters...

Playing "100 years ago" Il-2, Forgotten Battles, Pacific Fighters...etc. Oleg Maddox never had that suicide enemy AI problem... Does this mean that software development has deteriorated in a past 10 years ?

No need to be a d**k. Report a proper bug in the right section with documentation (track).

I can no longer get the Prokhorovka map to open in the Mission Editor with either one of my 2 separate IL2 installations after the latest updates.

The editor also locks up when I try to create a new map using the Prokhorovka template.

@Devs so, I have to say, latest patch not very impressed.

so far, my flight hours have gone up exponentially.

Also, my VR distractions of worrying about ugly cloud/sky colour banding, size of stars, and over g banding… no longer…

I’m really enjoying myself.

Ya..thanks… thanks for this “product”.

what you failed to introduce in this patch is ver. 1.067 of “how to get away from your family to play more”

Always left wanting more….

not impressed….

Good fixes overall guys but do you have any plans for having a look or better reworking canopy scratches? They are more visible than cons when fullly zoomed out while IRL u dont notice even big dirt patches when looking through the glass.

The scratches are now a bit thick, and I've seen them many times as a distant fire or an unknown object:wacko:

If these "marks" are made thin enough, they should look like scratches.

I have had 2 other squad mates confirm the Prokorhovka map is not loading for them either now in the Mission Editor.

Yup, got that too - initially I thought a mission file I've been working on on and off for some time was bugged but I now saw that it won't even switch to Prokhorovka in a new mission file.

It didn't. COD and GB has completely different codebases.

Overall, I really liked the changes, except for this one → "33. Heavy bomber AIs won’t try to evade an attack by zig-zag maneuvering;"!!!

Heavy bomber evasive maneuvers really existed and make the simulator much more challenging!!!

What heavy bombers?  Everything we have in the sim now are light or medium bombers.

It took me a few moments to figure out what was being referred to myself: Handley-Page O/400 and Gotha G.V would be classified as heavies in the context of WWI.

Which is reasonable considering that the Handley-Page has about the same wingspan as the B-17!

Indeed. The American daylight bombers flying in tight formations couldn't make extensive maneuvers - but it was normal for the British. The Lancaster's 'corkscrew' maneuver is famous.

Ju-88 C-6:
2400 RPM with 1.2 Ata says: Nominal.
79% throttle
87 % RPM
That should be Climb mode based on description.

@Jason and team, I must say I'm blown away by the vr experience now with the new skydome/lighting and clouds sans banding! The sun is also much better. Have not tested the night sky yet, but im very happy with the improvement. The new lighting has helped make the textures look better as well.

What graphic settings are you using?

Is it a custom skin?

Any mod?

Unfortunately we have no way to confirm our conjectures on the VR population. It would be interesting to know the reality of it.

Hm. I can't start GB anymore. Everytime the launcher says "failed to update"... I've allready deleted the update folder though. Never ever had this issue.
