Game version 4.703 discussion: New Sky, Ju-88-C6, Gotha G.V, H.P.400, Griffons Campaign

I love everything that you have done. BF-109 later series feels more logical now. But I still need to try them more.

New sky and lighting is a visual delicacy for VR users.

One critic. Those stars are really tooooooo big guys. The most powerful telescope on earth cannot see them that big. All the rest is very nice.

Sky and lighting changes are fantastic, super immersive now. Well done.

Cloud reflections in the sea look odd, maybe a bug?

Hello
After the update, when I close the game, I get a black screen and I have to press escape to see the desktop....?:scratch_one-s_head:
This has never happened to me before.

S!,

"On all Bf-109 aircraft (except for the E-7) the effectiveness of the ailerons at high speeds has been changed (increased) (the "clamping" of the ailerons has been reduced at speeds over 400 km/h)"  400km/h is about 250mph if I remember correctly.

In other words the RAE flight test data has been completely dismissed in favour  of luftwhiner wishful thinking. Every aircraft design makes compromises to achieve particular design goals. This and other recent 109 FM changes just erase the downside costs of those compromises so there is no price to pay for the design advantages. I think it’s disappointing. All 109s already have ridiculous elevator authority at all speeds and seem to pay no drag penalty for abuse of the stabilisor - which incidentally is movable at speeds over which it was well documented to be inoperable. The high alpha maneuvers the game 109 is capable of are frankly ridiculous and the total absence of its well documented stall characteristics make it impossible to outturn in an area of the performance envelope where the real aircraft was notably weaker than other aircraft optimised for turn fighting at the expense of speed.

Ju-88-C6 VR cockpit view, when I lean forward, the virtual 3D Modell fades in, I can see my legs and my arms, they even move with me when I use the rudder or the stick.
Is this new, can you turn it on somewhere? I would be happy if you could see this all the time.

Bug Report for Battle of Moscow single player Campaign

I am currently having issues with the update. Currently playing single player campaign on the German side and today my missions are bombing friendly target at BoM map 2901 bottom left corner of the map. Never had this in the pass. I also had a bomber escort with a BF 110E2 at the same location.

Does any one has this issue.

All my missions from the German planes are all pointing to map grid 2901 and this only happen with BoM not on the other maps.

Thank you.

Wow looks like one heck of an update!! Very much looking forward to the new sky improvements and flying the new historical campaign for the Spit Mk XIV !

Thank you!!!

Upon further testing I have found the new skydome to be particularly impressive when the sun has gone down. Morning and afternoon scenes are greatly improved also, but the biggest improvement, at least for me, is definitely when the moon is high in the sky. No longer is there unmistakable colour-banding issues that were impossible not to spot. The difference from the old to the new, you could say, is 'night and day'. I read a lot of Terry Pratchett as a kid, so that pun is dedicated to him.

I just got home from work and decided i was gonna play the game for a few minutes before taking a shower etc,i clicked on it and it started acting funny, when that happens its usually a update, once i saw that it was indeed a update was like yesssssssss!!!!!, i don't have FC2 but i'm sure gonna test that 88 out, thank you much for making  my afternoon!!

I've played some more, and have to say big kudos for the lighting changes and improvements. They've really transformed some of the maps for the better. Haven't tried everything yet, but Arras especially has benefitted. The previous slightly over-dark, almost like looking through a polaroid lens, effect is gone and it looks glorious in all conditions.

The new lighting has also taken the already good clouds to a new level. Generally, there seems to be increased contrast overall - trees and forest areas are much improved too. Winter maps show noticeable improvement too.

I'm seeing what people were talking about with the Gotha! Though have managed to take off successfully, expect landings will be a different matter ?

Really - I'm delighted with what you have achieved here. And given the current 'situation' and the undoubted effects on everyone in the team a very big thank you for your work.

More screens. Couldn't resist.

From a VR perspective I had this looking awesome before the update. It was crisp and clear and a sunny day looked sunny, but now looking blury, as if dynamic resolution is set to 80% or similar.. Also looks so drab now. Tried in 2D and the same drab look, plus struggling on performance that didnt before..

109 too strong now. Plz nerf.

Spoiler

In all seriousness:

I don't really feel the new roll rate much. Not a complaint, just an observation. Low speed handling feels a little worse in some situations. Turning does feel a little better. Overall, there was nothing to be afraid of regarding the changes.

I did 1v4 with a 109F-4 vs I-16s (20mm armed), and lost 8 of 10 attempts. I expect that's more to do with AI accuracy gains.

In 1v1s with both the F-4 and the G-6, everything felt fine. Opponents were Spitfire Vs, IXs, and P-51Bs.

It appears that single and campaign missions still work without resaving.  :good:

For the new sky, any recommended adjustments to VR graphic settings?  I usually look to maximize spotting, but can't nerf the graphics too much - too beautiful, just can't.  But if this update drives a reevaluation, any tips from the tech guys on which direction to go to readjust appreciated.

Smooth sailing for me.  Nice update.  2.5 huns on my first Griffons mission, but I haven't yet been able to get the Gotha off the ground (well, not far off the ground at least).

Thanks,

I've just flown the Ju88-C6, great addition to the game, thanks Jason and Team - I will be conjuring up some missions for it shortly. What I did notice, when looking at the Junkers 'head on' in the air, there appeared to be gaps in the bottom section of the radiators on both engines ( I could see through the gaps to the outside world on the other side of the engine cowls) - I will send a pic shortly. I am not sure if this a graphic fault or not?

If there are very large deviations from the normal position, the pilot model is loaded automatically.

Nighttime is the right time:

20220315203259_1.thumb.jpg.b77e50dcfc7f2fbdd9d5361cb99c8373.jpg

I rather like the 'too big' stars. Adds a bit of, dare I say, romance to the night sky.

*Edit: I should also add, these are locations with near-zero light pollution, so the stars would look a little brighter than what most of us are accustomed to. Not a perfect justification, maybe, but close enough.

Good update so far.

However I found a strange BUG on Bf 109 G-6.

When I select the modification "Removed Headrest", in game the Bf 109 G-6 is limited to 1.14 ata (is unable to go up to 1.42 ata).

Couple of comments. I am already loving the HP and the Gotha. Lovely ships, and a pleasure to fly. Once you learn the Gotha's flying quirks, she's a nice tame girl.

I appreciate the fix for the DH4's bugged bomb sight. I also appreciate that the Convergence setting now actually affects WWI planes, especially the SE5a. Now I'll have to pay attention to that.

However, I do have a BUG REPORT. the HP400 pilot does not have flares or pistol. I was unable to draw or fire my pistol or flare gun when flying the HP400 online, nor was anybody else I talked to on the server. Other planes I flew (SE5a, Gotha, DFW) had no such problems. I am rather fond of shooting other players with my pistol, and flares are useful for assembling large formations.

... not to be that guy as I had my doubts I was correct but something isn't right on the 109s.

Did the pilots steroid up or something.

I have a unhindered roll rate up to 700kph. The Yak is a brick at that speed and messing around on quick mission I'm pretty sure the G6 out rolls the CW spitfire at speeds over 650kph by a pretty significant margin.

On Finnish it was plane set 5 I believe (Yak 9, 9T and P38 are somewhat the go to fighters) G6/6L and A3 are the Germans go to. We couldn't out dive, outclimb or outturn them. Even had what I assume was a G2 with gunpods on outturning us in Yak 9s. We had to break off as our pilots were starting to G out.

I saw that as well, thanks for reporting it. My guess would be a mistake with the alpha channel for the skins is rendering that part invisible.

Was the 109 pilot strength increased along with the roll rate tweak? They seem to be able to out pull allied planes at moderate speeds, and at high speed pull like the tiffy did when released with it's overly strong pilot but with roll rates that don't decline much. With the additional G tolerance from the seat(?) a yak9 or mk9 spit can't turn as sharply or as long before they sleep above 400kph.

If that's all more accurate, that's cool, it's just such a huge departure from what they have been like for the past few years that it completely changes the game in multiplayer.

They're much more of a pig when slow than before, and the new prop fix for UFO stuff when slow is fantastic at first blush.

Also, the sun is way, way too much in VR.  If it's in your FOV it's blinding and causes comfort issues for me. Lower gamma kind of helps, but low enough to not cause a headache (.6) makes the rest of the game very dark.

Some quick comments after testing:

1) The UI transparency bug still persists (it's now a longstanding issue). When selecting sub-items in the Menus UI, all the background elements turn transparent when they should not do that. Also all the map markings (like red circles) are still transparent and I can see planes through them when looking at full screen map.

2) I refuse to believe that the Real Life Gotha was this dangerous to fly. Taking off with bomb-loaded Gotha is maddeningly hard, even with reduced fuel load. I tried 15 takeoffs and only once succeeded to lift the bird from the ground. And this is with over 1000 hours of game time with other WW1 and WW2 planes. It's also probably the only plane that is way harder to takeoff than to land. All my 6 attempts at landing were succesful.

3) Free Griffon Campaign is a fantastic addition! More gameplays is always welcome.

Some additional Notes: I think tail gunners should be more accurate (the way they were before) and I think pilots die WAY too easily from little crashes that used to cause a blackout in the past.

No, start is not any roblem or extra difficulty. To start with Gotha, use this: open the radiators 100%, put full throttle, push the stick forward slightly and let Gotha run. She will take off practically alone. Tested with 100% fuel, with maximum bomb load and all modes. Tested on the map of Aras. There is no problem with taking off.

If you need to turn on the ground in the desired direction, use the power of the engines, not the rudder. For example, mark engine 1 and uncheck engine 2 - engine 2 will have zero power, add throttle to engine 1 as needed. When turned in the direction, press the throttle on engine 1 to zero to equal the values of both engines, mark engine 2 again and give full throttle.
Important Note - Gotha has other flight characteristics that result from the design of the aircraft. Do not try to turn in the desired direction immediately after takeoff, this usually leads to a fall. It is necessary to keep the speed above 100 km / h, otherwise it is dangerous. When turning, use the primary rudder, not the ailerons.

Guys what with nav lighs and tracer visibility at daylight? You said it will be adressed quick after last patch that broke the things. Now with the new lighting there the problem still exists. It would have huge impoct on MP gameplay.
