I play with a G2 and dont have any problem getting blinded by the sun.

Before the latest "fix" it was really strong when looking in the direction of the sun, but that´s how it is in real life I think.

Now I actually think it is too weak if you want it to be realistic, but I don´t complain, because I think this sim is amazing just the way it is.

I love it!

You ever fly using the HP Reverb G2??? If no, then why are you responding? Base on you " help " I know you don't.

Strangely enough, I use a Reverb-G2 and have no problem with the sun.
Yes. It can be annoying and limit your vision, but I find it pretty much the same as in real aircraft in real life.

Maybe I should ask a deity if he could turn the settings down. :russian_ru:

I have a major issue with the new sun and how this game does not allow sunglasses or goggles toggle ? I have not been able to enjoy the game anymore due to the pain it causes to my eyes. I had the gamma down to the lowest setting .05 on a sunny snow map in Finish today and I still was getting a head ach. It is like the setting are set to be if the pilot had their eyes dilated with belladonna for an eye exam.  Please do not make a comment if you don't use the HP Reverb G2 due to your point of view is pointless and rude. So this is a question only to other HP G2 players. Do you have a work around or fix for this? Or just are dealing with the same problem? I use to play this game 4 hours a day and Now I am lucky to get 1 hour due to the new sun system.

Set bloom_enable=0 and all will be OK.

Please post your system like I did with in game and GPU settings.

He's giving you the settings. But perhaps you should ask him first if he in fact uses a G2. By your own words, his post isn't worth a thing if he doesn't.

If you're looking for a solution, you might want to try to be a bit friendlier. People are more inclined to help people who are kind, you know.

Pretty positive it'll sort it for you, bloom especially in VR is not so good in actual gameplay.

This did help lower the pain level from a 10 to around a 7. I was able to fly in a snow map with 11am sun and the pain went from 11+ to 7 ish. I had to use .07 gamma or lower but it was much better ty. I will let others know.

Disabling HDR might help as well, but that's down to personal preference as it affects overall brightness and causes that "eye adaptation" effect. It makes gamma settings more consistent when disabled however. I keep both that and bloom off and play with 1 or 0.9 gamma.

Just a datapoint:

I'm seeing a ton of light flare in VR since the lighting patch as well (Samsung Odyssey - WMR based, on Steam).  Will test the "set Bloom =0" and see how it goes.

I was getting a LOT of sunflare at the horizon if the sun was BEHIND me - to the point I couldn't see opponents in the distance. Not realistic at all. Looking in the general direction of the sun, a lot worse, and far more than realistic, with most of the horizon a giant, glowing blob 90 degrees wide or more.

Will follow up after trying the Bloom fix...

I use the G2 and don't personally have any issue with the lighting.  It is bright, but not any brighter than I would want it to be.

Hi there,
After the last update I did a few more test flights with J99*Kobold with the Gotha. At first glance, one has the impression that the explosive power of the bombs has been improved, but it feels like blinding. You see a big fireball and a lot of smoke. After that, a large burn mark appears on the texture of the floor surface.

I tested the 300kg bomb on the fuel tanks that serve as targets in FiF at the airfields. The big burn showed me that I hit the target well, but only one battery of the petrol tanks was destroyed. I can do that with a 50kg bomb!
Bridges are also damaged if you don't hit them exactly.
J99*Kobold followed me in the fighter in low flight when I threw the 300kg bomb. He was frightened by the fireball and also felt the blast, but his plane suffered little or no damage. In RoF it totally tears up the pursuer plane in a similar situation.
Conclusion: the plane succeeded! But because of the low explosive power of the bombs, using the Gotha makes no sense. A huge blinding effect cannot replace a real explosive power!

Also. Check your gamma settings.
I use .9 or .8

So far we are 100% of the players saying it's great with 0 data or help to the community. Make sure you notice this when you are thinking. It's impossable to deal with real world effect in the game and the HP Reverb G2 when people just give options vs data.

I agree 100%, the sun is borked.

Well... it is a sphere of gas collapsing under its own weight to the point where it just somehow sustains a fusion reaction.

So, by our standards, yes.

@USAF-Ice_man_VR, I had this same eye hurting glare you're talking about too until I switch my Nvidia color settings back to default from the Nvidia color setting option.  I thought the Nvidia settings would have been better in that it's an Nvidia card rendering the colors, not true with IL-2 I found.  The colors in game even look more realistic now; the ground is lighter and makes it easier to spot targets and is generally better on my eyes again.   I'm Using a G2 with a gamma setting of 1.0 with HDR turned off.

It's in the Nvidia control panel in > Display > Change resolution > Use default color settings.  Hopefully it works for you but if you don't know where it is chances are you already have it set to default.

Edit - I just realised I also went back to the Feb.22nd Nvidia driver 511.79 at the same time...

OK, I've cleaned up the thread. Do not wander this far and hijack threads with support issues. If I can separate the G2 bloom posts into their own thread I will. Otherwise take it to the appropriate section for discussion please.

Question about new sky tech..

the super high cirrus clouds that are part of the skybox.. I’m wondering if they may be touched up one day or even better removed, looking kinda blocky and kinda don’t mix with the new clouds

Hi,

At the moment me and some friends are having some issues with the sim. Maybe others had it too and found a solution.

In a period before update 4.703 and 4.703c me and some squad mates took a lot of effort to find the best graphics settings and we did find a very good balance in eye-candy/spotting and performance. Our situational awareness was very good and we could plan our attacks but defensive actions very efficient. After coming out of a fight and returning to mutual vector we could find each other without too much effort. We fly all with high end computer systems and can crank up the settings to ultra and extreme (clouds) and keep good performance.

Now since the last two updates the sim is not enjoyable anymore to play.

Its very hard again to keep track of enemies. They sometimes disappear and then after a few seconds they are back. I hear people mentioning a LOD bug? Also when a contact is flying in front of a cloud I see weird artifacts around it but not the plane itself. Clouds are set at extreme in the settings and overall setting is ultra. Others in my squad have this issue too but 2D players seem to have a lot less issues with this. I am back to tweaking settings again to try to get the good experience back but without any luck so far.

Don't get me wrong, the graphics look very awesome! But it came with issues.

"You cannot fight what you cannot see".

Are more people experiencing this? Any tips/workarounds?

Best regards, S!,

Neph!

I saw a few times that plane disappeared. But it was for a 1 or 2 seconds and it was always at distance more then 5 km.

Guys, follow the advice in this link from FullCooler, it'll correct your connection problem with planes blinking off on you, it did for me:

Hi Drum,

This is not the issue that we are discussing here. It is the bad visibility and keeping track of contacts and squad members. That became very difficult.

(You are right that wrong MTU can result in connection issues. Squad mates from Germany have this issue a lot. I work in IT and for some corporate locations we ddid change MTU size to fix connection issues.)

I agree that spotting was at it's best just before the introduction of the new clouds. They look great but I noticed an introduction of some kind of blur which has made contact spotting difficult again, especially against the ground.

I agree, I had just started to enjoy the game just before the last updates. I have been playing this game from beta and it went from poor spotting on the 2d settings to a point we had to use the Nvidia color settings to allow contrast between the fighters and the ground. Fast forward to 2/2022. That was the last time I could fly in VR and enjoy the game without getting a migraine from the bright setting leaving me to choose migraine or just a head ach and did I really want to see targets. Now especially how I was treated when bringing this up by the mod of this form about the patch I will never bother to help them fix anything again for the rest of my life and will see if they fix this issue before I stop playing Il2 for the 1st time in 20 years and move on to a new game. It makes me said I put so much time into helping players get the best experience out of their systems in this game and hundreds of hours making YouTube about VR and IL2 not counting the hundreds of players I spent one on one time with helping them get the best performance and experience we could for them in the game to see that it has become a this whatever it is.

gee you're such a martyr aren't you - all that selflessness over so many years. All dedicated to helping others.

Save us the violins and the blame game.

All you showed here was belligerance, hostility and arrogance to anyone who tried helping you. That's why the mod reacted as he did.

But don't learn anything or take a look in the mirror..oh no just keep blaming everyone else.

Here 's hoping you find that replacement sim/game quickly. Good luck

Generally I like the improvements from the last update but performance in vr appears to be significantly worse at least for me. While not top of the line my system is quite good and should not be struggling as much as it is. I have had to back off several graphic settings to regain the lost performance but even doing so hasn’t fully restored how the game ran before. Being around ground units and cities seems to have more negative impact than it did before the update. I realize the devs said there could be performance reduction with the new sky but whatever benefits the new sky offers for me anyway, it wasn’t worth the loss of performance.

I get personal phone calls and text from members of the community for 20 years asking for help. Can you say the same? based on the toxic level I am seeing from people like you I am sad to see IL2 become a computer game vs the community it always has been. What is your problem with people point out bugs in the game? I don't even post in the forms unless it is a issue that can't be fixed from the player side of the game. And that is very few. I have posted more in the past 3 weeks than I have needed to post in the past 20 years. Mainly due to the possible lawsuit they could get from players using the HP G2 and eye damage.

Sad very sad.
