I decided against it. It had dead pixels, and the distortion, although lessened, was not gone after the software upgrade. Especially in rooomscale games.

 

I had re-ordered the Aero but cancelled that after getting back into the G2. I prefered the G2 because it has a much larger FOV than the Aero and a geometrically stable picture and a much better stereo overlap.

 

I have gotten notice that the current 8KX have:

New PCB, different screens with better colours, meet 90Hz at full resolution. When I went through 3 5K+, they had a lot of variety, and I assume this is true for the 8KX too. So I'll be giving the "new" 8KX another chance.

Pretty good review.  According the article, I'm ridiculous.  I saw the screen door effect in the Varjo Aero!  =D
I do think this article may be erroneous in the fact that it highlights the local dimming of the miniLED panels but overlooks the fact that local dimming isn't enabled on the Aero!
To my knowledge, Varjo has NOT enabled local dimming on the Aero due to some artifacting issue they have yet to solve (and may never solve).
With the Aero I experienced the WORST black levels I've seen in VR.
Regarding the new 8KX - where did you hear it has better colors?  Does the previous 8KX not meet 90hz at full resolution?  Mine seems to have no trouble with that.  Make sure to tweak the picture settings.  My 8KX had bland colors at first.  Bumping the backlight brightness and tweaking the software brightness/contrast levels made the colors pop.  I'd say the colors are somewhat better than the G2.
