Giggles Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 the claim is that if you toss in the AI control option, the computer will fly your plane in a dog fight for you,, if the system is that advanced, can you explain why when i spawn in the old style quick mission generator, i have 10 seconds to take manual control and break or i die in a head on collision EVERY TIME
Props Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 If you pick the icon marked with just 2 planes for a classic 1 on 1 dogfight you do not get to change the initial engagement distance. But if you choose the icon with multiple adversaries you can set the distance up to 10 kilometers, altitude separation, and you can still go head to head, or pursuit, off to one side (usually the right they never seem to come from the left), etc. You can also limit it to only 2 aircraft, yours and the adversary, though I have always gone with more adversaries to improve my situational awareness. Explore these options and your frustration may dissipate accordingly.
Giggles Posted March 13, 2022 Author Posted March 13, 2022 classic 1 on 1 DOES allow altitude seperation at the start. Im just damned curious as to why the auto flight AI system NEVER dodges the head on attack.. even the lowly C47 deliberately flies into me, every time.

If you take the three vs. three symbol, you can also fly one vs. one and you can not only select the altitude and distance, but also in which relation you and your oponent start the mission. Face to face, he follows you or you follow him. So you can avoid this head on at the mission start.
Giggles Posted March 14, 2022 Author Posted March 14, 2022 i know how the options go , i dont understand HOW the AI control system for My plane is supposed to fly the plane in combat against the other AI plane, but cannot avoid a head on collision
Yogiflight Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 (edited) So after you start the mission, you start the autopilot to let the AI take over control? EDIT: OK, I just tried it myself in some aircrafts from both sides. Engaged autopilot after mission start and watched. Apart from the P-47, in which my AI pilot started climbing and tried to get behind the opposing 109, they all took the head-on. The Spit and the Tempest got heavily damaged by the opposing 109's fire, but in all aircrafts I tried, my AI pilot evaded the opposing fighter. No crash. Which aircraft did you use? You spawn with level flight autopilot turned on. It's two different things. Just hitting 'A' (or whatever the default keybind is) will allow the AI to fully take over your plane. Hitting 'shift+L' (I think) does auto-level-flight. That's all it does. This still doesn't explain why the enemy AI doesn't break before hitting you, but whatever.
