Campus Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 I have noticed that in every two or three missions, basically randomly, my wingmen just circle above me while i fight 5 enemy planes. Sometimes when we get into contact they engage and sometimes they just circle around. I have tried giving them commands like attack enemy air or cover me but nothing works at that point when they dont attack themselves. Even if they get attacked by enemy air they dont react and most of the times just continue circling around while being fired at I dont know if this might be a custom mission bug or i am doing something wrong. I have though if crossing waypoints has an affect on this or what other command makes them engage.
PatrickAWlson Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 Yep. Happens sometimes. Shrug. PWCG doesn't control the AI once the flight is in progress. 1

(outside of the Player?} According to the rules that I am aware of, nothing that PWCG does should result in this behavior. PWCG waypoints are low or medium, never high. All fighter missions get low priority. All attack/bomber missions get medium. The AI is supposed to be aggressive when they are flying a medium priority WP and a threat is near. I have certainly seen them do that. Other times, not so much, and I'm pretty sure that the AI can go to sleep on low priority waypoints too.
Thad Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 Just so you know, I was not blaming PWCG for the problem. It occurs outside of PWCG during in game normal play too. I was just spit balling for a reason.
IckyATLAS Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 This issue happens with escorts, which just continue circling above and sipping coffee admiring the clouds, as you get attacked, instead of plunging and hurtling down from the sky full speed like a meteor guns blazing towards your enemy. On the FMB one way to solve this issue is to free the planes as escort and then order them to attack the enemy. It does work, and then based on conditions you can reattach them as escort. For wingmen I do not think that a Force Complete directed to a specific wingman would have an effect. But I never tried.
