Virpil users, are there config files for games like Thrustmaster Cougar had?

Noob question of course, I just got my stick and throttle today, rudders delayed until tomorrow. So I am looking at getting it programmed with all the keymaps but am starting to think this is not done by downloading a file to the unit and restarting it.

Obviously I can map a button to a command in game, but I'm used to seeing it visually, like a drawing of the stick showing each button and a function/command/macro assigned to each.

Is that the only way to do this, go in game and assign each button or hat position? I'd love to try out multiple people's files, find what I like and make my own frankenconfig. Can we exchange button mappings at all?

Stick is a Constellation Alpha

WarBRD Base

Throttle is MongoosT-50CM3

Yes mapping in game is really the best solution.

Virpil software is good for customized other aspects of the hardware, like axis to button for additional buttons, etc.

Just be aware IL-2 has a 64 button limit per device. So any button numbers above 64 will not be recognized by IL-2.

I had no problem though mapping all the assignments I wanted in IL-2 to my Virpil CM3 Throttle,

You likely won't find user profiles to do in game mapping like with TM software.

Even in DCS I had no trouble mapping all I wanted - it has a 128 button limit per device.

If you figure out how to configure the rotary encoders, let us know. Most of people here tried without any luck, including myself.

@VilsonFarias : I have a joystick gremlin plugin you can use to map them to an axis.

It could be improved by adding a 'reset' functionality, as well as an option to activate a fine mode (e.g. by pressing the encoder while turning). I haven't gotten around to this because I don't actually use this plugin much, but if someone wants to send me a PR, I'd merge it.

I guess Virpil fixed something, didn't work for me before but do now. Make sure your software and firmware is latest (mine updated on 4th March).

Some of the knobs need a lot of turning to see them move in the cockpit, don't be fooled. ;)

You need to "Save" in 2, then when completely finished you need to click the big green button "Save VPC Device" to finish.

I understand the encoders are much better now but may need to make some changes in the software. I am not yet up to speed on those, check the Virpil forums.

I just use them for simple things currently.

I tried this approach but the rottary doesn't work well in game.

My best result was creating a virtual axis. It worked perfectly, two full turns and you went from 0 to 100%. It was also very precise. But the problem with this approach is that very time you turn the knob, the controller also trigger the buttons 35 or 36 (depending if you are rotating counter or clockwise). When you try to assign an axis in game, the key pressing is detected before the axis change, therefore making this approach useless. I also tried to edit the config files and add the axis by hand but still didn't work.

Here is how to create the virtual axis:

Maybe you can make some progress and figure out how to assing the axis.

Editing the config files by hand should work. I frequently add commands that way. If you want to post a few lines of your config around what you're inserting, I can probably tell you where you're going wrong.
