All of a sudden, I'm the gunner?

Was coming back from a mission on single player in a 110. Did OK, was a happy camper so to speak. I wanted to check on the bad guys, and hit the wrong key of course. All of a sudden I'm the gunner. Really? I can do that? WOW!! Problem is, who is flying the plane? Well, it rolled over and lawn darted into some trees, we were coming in for a landing so it didn't take too long to hit the ground.

How does one get to be gunner without crashing? How does one control the gun? How do you do that? That is so cool, I found a new 'toy' but don't know the first thing about it. I want to play!!! HELP!!!!!

Thanks guys,

KB

Someone else will give you more propper advice how but for the quick answer (saw you just posted it)

I don't often switch to the gunner but I think to remember

"shift + c" brings you to the gunner positions and back

to use the guns it was "shift + t" I think

I'm not real sure what I hit........

If all of the sudden you get sent to the gunner position, your pilot was killed by something.

Never happened to me in any of the multi-position planes I've flown.  Pilot death has always been "You have been killed".

To the OP, if you want to use a gunner position, either set auto-level Shift-A or autopilot A (Assuming these are allowed under your settings), and Left Control-C to switch between the positions on the aircraft.

When flying online, I always get dumped into a gunner spot if pilot is sniped.

Without a track to observe what happened, OP either hit the keys to move to gunner or pilot killed. A or B. There is not other way.

Ahh, maybe it's an online thing.  I only play offline.

First, look which key you have assigned for the commands 'Switch to next free combat post' and 'Switch to 1st firing point'. You must have pressed one of those two keys to change the positions.

Second, if you want to go to the gunners position to have fun with the bad boys, there are two posibilities, how you get your aircraft flown. The first one is with either the autopilot (as Noisemaker posted, it has to be allowed in your difficulty settings), then an AI pilot will fly your 110, or the level pilot, then your 110 will fly straight on course, second possibility is you fly your aircraft yourself. Stick and rudder pedals work the same way as if you were in your pilot seat. You just have to keep in mind, that you have to move the stick to the opposite direction you would think you should,  because you are not looking forward.

To fire the rear gun you have to press the key for 'Turret: take/leave control', to be able to move and fire the gun and 'Turret: nestle to the gunsight', so you can aim with the gun. If you are flying the Bf 110 E2 you have to keep in mind, that your gun has 75 rounds magazines, you have to change, when they are empty, by pressing the key 'Reload turret guns'

I was playing offline SP career. Had been through a battle and was just out of the airbase getting ready to land. I think I hit the #1 key in the line of numbers across the top of the keyboard, not the 'F' keys, but the regular #s.

Usually if flying on auto pilot, I can't do anything with the keyboard, except go off of auto pilot.

If I get sniped, I'm usually just dead........

Is there a way to set up to be a gunner, and use the joystick to run the gun? THAT would be fun!!

No, the rear gun can only be used with the mouse. I forgot to mention that. Left mouse button to shoot it. But this makes sense for those, who still want to be able to fly the aircraft themselves. I did that a lot in old IL-2 and at the beginning in GB, but then decided to stay flying my plane. That was much safer for me:biggrin:

Left CTRL + C = Switch to next free combat post

Right Shift + 0, 1, 2, 3... 9 = Switch to Default / 1st, 2nd, 3rd (etc.) position

T = Take/Leave control of Gun

Left Shift + T = Nestle Camera to Gunsight

Left Shift + Mouse = Adjust Camera when Nestled to Gunsight

hope this helps!

Edit: Before switching to gunners make sure plane is on autopilot level (Left Shift + A)

if you dont turn on autopilot you can still control the plane with your joystick while using the gunner, but good luck with that. ?

One addition Shift + C let’s you change „sub position“ in the position. For example left and right waist gun on the He 111 or switching between the 2 rear MGs of the Ju 88
