Panzerlang Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 (edited) Where to start. Lol. I've been at it for a few hours this afternoon. It's seems clear that it's supposed to be possible to set up the units together, as the profile pictures associate units. But in a bizarre way. The stick can be associated with its base and a control panel. The throttle can be associated with a control panel. But no matter how I did it the buttons would become non-functional on this and/or that unit. I finally set up each unit on its own with the other two disconnected and voila, all working. Why can't all the units be associated with each other in a logical way? Stick>Base>throttle>control panel/s ? I don't get it. But now the throttle. With the mode-dial on ONE, the six LED-lit momentary buttons won't stay lit up (and how I've tried with the settings in the configuration windows). Then, with the dial set to FOUR (random choice) I found mapping one of the momentary buttons in the game saw it come up as yadayada POV. In the cockpit it did nothing. Plus the RGB colours per mode-dial setting can't be chosen (or at least not that I could work out). Watching youtube tutorials, contradictory and sometimes completely wrong (as frequently pointed out in the comments). The software obviously changes in not just minor ways from version to version, which doesn't help. Nor does the basic cluster-fackedness of the complexity of it all. Lol. But the units work, at the most basic (and sufficient, thank god) level. It's just that the bells and whistles (or icing on the cake) doesn't. Which is a shame, given the primo cost of it all. Does it matter? The LEDs don't really, I wear a VR headset, but the lights would be pretty if they all worked (more lol) while taking a break with a coffee and fag. I'm on the latest software and firmware (released today funnily enough). Any thoughts, insights or whatever would be interesting. Does anyone else think the software is basically somewhat broken or just not very good? I should add that the hardware itself is truly superb. Quality, fit, finish and polish, outstanding. Oh yeah, worked out how to feather a prop. Don't bother with the Hs129, one motor doesn't make the nut. ? Edit: Found out how to activate and change LED colours on all mode-dial positions. Yay! JG7_X-Man Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 I was able to get my hardware to work. I used YouTube videos and help from the Virpil forum. As for the LEDs I have mine to change color bases on my throttle settings BLUE - 0% - Start/Stop [hard stop - need to lift] GREEN 2% - 63% YELLOW 65% - 86% [soft stop] RED 87% - 100% 1
BP_Lizard Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 I have tried to make sense of its programing software but was too complicated for this old feeble brain of mine so I’ve been using Joy2Key. It serves my need and am quite happy. 1
dburne Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 (edited) Have a look at Havoc Co video tutorials on Virpil gear. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxPjhMEGmxbEyNAUXNPB5pQ It can be daunting but there is so much flexibility in what one can do with their gear. Edited March 5, 2022 by dburne 1 1
Dallas88B Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 2nd that. Havoc videos are excellent. Even where there are changes in the software revisions the latest video of each type provides a good grounding to allow one to move forward. It does take time though....as I found out for myself ...rushing it ...skimming thru the video doesn't work... ya miss bits that matter ?
Panzerlang Posted March 5, 2022 Author Posted March 5, 2022 I think they must have improved some stuff in the latest software/firmware. Rotary dials didn't used to work in the cockpit (set to 'encoder with buffer') but now they do, which is a joy. ? I'm using one to turn down the volume of the radio. The relief!!! ? 2
