II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 The beauty of linguistics, rather than definition or grammar, is if I say it and you understand it, it is correct. Also, I love commas and use, them, where, they, are, not, needed, often. 1

You can't expect everybody to be perfectly proficient in the English language. That doesn't take away they're users who have the right to post on this forum. This is a discussion about DD 310, not a language test. Have a nice day. I don't think anyone was criticizing people who speak English as a non-native language. It's the native speakers who make the most annoying blunders, and have no valid excuses. Part of it, I suppose, is the poor state of modern education. And the other part is just individual laziness and inattention to detail. How can the teeming masses ever hope to improve their diction and elocution unless some brave souls endeavor to remind them of their errors; preferably in the most supercilious way possible? 1 3
migmadmarine Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 Fussing about "grammatical correctness" is the worst form of vapid snobbery. Herr muff is right, if one person says something and another understands their meaning then what they have said is fine, and this tangent in the thread has gotten enough out of hand as it is. Stop clutching your pearls so tightly, you'll cramp your hand 2 1 2

Stop clutching your pearls so tightly, you'll cramp your hand *adjusts monocle with indignation* And I suppose the guttural mutterings of our troglodyte forebears serve as sufficient forms of communication as well? *claps briskly* Hamish, my manservant, will fetch the hansom. I can tell when my presence is no longer wanted.
MisterSmith Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 Back on topic folks.............please. We are pretty far off the bases at the moment.

Very well spoken. You're what I would call a cunning linguist.

I don't mind using google translate to edit the occasional post as long as it is infrequent and not for the same members. Here is todays translation: "Here we need to talk about planes or flights or things close to them. Language quality is out of the question here. Since there is a rule that we should speak English in this forum, then English is spoken. Good or bad, it doesn't matter, everyone according to their own knowledge. No more." Additionally, I did have to hide one post as Google couldn't translate it. Smith. Dear Smith I hope that you saw that I made the previous post of mine as a joke. I do speak and write fluently in five languages including the one used above, and understand seven. So forgive me for that one but it was itching. Be assured that I will continue in plain good old english ? Edited March 7, 2022 by IckyATLAS 1
