If I connect my Virpil stick to my Virpil throttle with the special link-cable option (the throttle would then connect to the PC by the regular USB cable) would it be possible to use the throttle's mode-selector knob to influence a stick button function?
In this case, throttle mode selector on ONE, a button on the stick fires the cannon. Mode selector switched to position TWO, the button on the stick now operates bomb release.

Anyone tried this? My throttle arrives tomorrow but I thought it better to ask before wasting a bunch of time trying it myself.

TIA. :)

I don't know the answer to your question ( might be better asked on Virpil forum).

Just be aware IL-2 has a 64 button limit per device. If you link your stick and throttle together then they are seen as one device.

I added some buttons to my flaps lever and mini stick,  however IL-2 at least won't recognize them because they are assigned numbers above 64.

I can and do use them in DCS because it's button limit is 128.

I'm not sure there are more than 64 functions in an FW190 cockpit so I'll give it a go and see if it works. Even if there are I can use other Virpil panels (64 x 3 I assume).

I'm not sure if there's a way to do this natively with Virpil's software, but I've used Joystick Gremlin to do just this sort of thing.

I have the knob bound to 'Switch Mode' in Joystick Gremlin, and each mode is configured for a different (category of) planes. Il-2 is bound to virtual (vjoy) buttons and axes, which stay the same, and each JG mode has a similar but slightly different mapping of physical to virtual.

This is particularly nice with Twins. In single-engine mode, the three levers control RPM, Throttle, and Water radiators, but with a twist of the mode selector, they become Throttle 1, Throttle 2, and RPM.
