Gunner, HEAT, PC! is a Cold War tank game developed by a small team.

https://gunnerheatpc.com/

Development of GHPC is funded by the community and the devs are doing regular streams showing th latest progress.

https://www.youtube.com/c/GunnerHEATPC/videos

There's an early test demo available, that's already looking quite promising.

https://gunnerheatpcdev.itch.io/gunner-heat-pc-development-test-build

It's not a hardcore tank sim like Steel Beast, but could be a worthy successor to Microprose M1 Tank Platton.

It's fascinating, that they use 3D scans to create their vehicle models. Some of the scans can be seen here:

https://sketchfab.com/ActionScripter/collections/created-for-ghpc

Apparently it's now possible to create such scans with just a Smartphone camera and a special photogrammetry software. That's of course a huge help for 3d modellers. I guess the same could be done with aircraft.

Posted

Looks to me like the scans result in an incredibly high triangle/vertex count.

I guess this isn’t surprising.

They’d have to be retopologized for game use. Still - pretty cool.

If I understand the information in one of their developer streams correctly, the scans are not directly converted into 3d models. Instead they are used as template by the modeller.

Yeah that’s what I mean by retopologizing. A base high-res model is used, and lower resolution geometry is ‘snapped’ on top of it.

This does look great. Reminds me of steel beasts pro PE

I only have a few questions. Does it have infantry? Does it have interiors? If so are the interiors clickable?

Crew experience or at least skill levels? What failures are present, for instance the loader dropping a shell?

No interiors and I don't think it's planned.

No crew experience/skill level yet, maybe it will be added later.

Infantry is planned.

Hi, fellow tank simmers, whats your oppinon on Gunner heat tank sim?

I dont like modern tanks ,  but it looks graphicaly very nice and the graphic engine is very smooth.

I wish we have this fires and enviroment in TC.

If you compare it to Steel armor blaze of war from the Graviteam?

OK i have tried the alpha demo. Graphic is nice, gameplay is smooth, model details are also nice.

I really like how the damage is represented on destroyed vehicles. Dynamic fire and smoke and the blown off turret is an object and do not fall through the tank like in TC.

Tanks are moving for some time if they are destroyed and have motion. In TC destroyed tanks are imediately stopped.

Excellent is also post bettle statistics, when you can view all vehicles and what ammo caused that particular damage. Like in Graviteam games.

I cant comment on ballistics and armor penetration, because I know nothing about modern tanks.

Biggest drawback is the absence of interiors, which will not be included even in full game.

Its alpha, but without interiors im not interested. Its shame they will not focus on 2-4 tanks with max realism and interiors.

For now it seems like slightly realistic arcade tank game imho.

This is giving me ARMA III vibes... but with better tank modeling, definitely will keep an eye on it!

Well said.  I have played it too and still spend all my time on FVP.  TC via FVP is the best tank simulation game out right now.  If Gunner HEAT gets a multiplayer, I might be interested - the scenery is very nice.

I watch some guys like that and find myself in awe of their intelligence and the drive for what they’re doing.   Game really looks impressive.  I think they had me at ‘jiggle physics antenna modeling’.

This update is excellent and the graphic effects are stunning. Not ww2 but, it will be the best tank sim.

Maybe some moders can do some interiors when the game is fully released.

I cant wait for western german armor, infantry and the enhanced destruction. It will be blast!

It is indeed! Looking forward to how the infantry will play out once they are introduced

Just need Russian tanks, not just GDR tin cans.

I'm personally not a fan of soviet/russian hardware... but they'll be interesting for the game as a whole to have.  I am definitely looking forward to the Bundeswehr though! I loved playing as them in the ARMA III DLC;  Global Mobilization - Cold War Germany:

There’s a lot of really impressive things about this. My compliments to the Devs. I don’t have time for it, but if I was back in college again I’d be all over it.

Played now a few hours, started with training missions and moving up from there. The game has a lot of potential, no denying that. Do not even miss interiors, you are too busy scanning the environment for threats and targets anyway. Really have to play attention.

Graphically looks ok, the models are nice. One could argue about range of vegetation drawn, namely grass. I assume that because Early Access some things might be placeholders etc. Smoke and fire looks good, clouds a bit meh. Lighting nicely done.

AI is a mixed bag, vehicles sometimes have brainfarts or get stuck on eachother. Has uncanny ability to spot enemies, even thru foliage etc. Helicopters flying in odd attitudes looked funny, pointing nose down 90deg etc. Not bickering how they fly, addition to immersion weighs more.

All in all a good game for an Early Access. Devs seem to put effort in it having regular updates etc. Definitely a keeper for me??

Yeah, these devs are a great example of not only consistent game updates but staying positively engaged with their customers.  And there is only like 6 dudes on the whole team.

The game has definitely improved a lot over time. I still remember playing an early demo version that just had a very basic desert map and rather bad effects.

I just wish they would finally make it possible to give friendly units commands on the ingame map, without this option it's difficult to use more complex tactics.
