I need a new stick,,   oh i surely do... and a new throttle system..

I borrowed my buddys laptop and t16000m hotas set up, its only a few years old.

But it hasnt help up well. The sticks cord is loose, there is something loose and rattly inside, it has sudden bouts of loss of sensitivity that best described as 100% roll left is now only 90% roll to left..

The throttle binds up at strange times, and buttons do wierd things. the little toggle switch? had it set up to do the zoom in and zoom out for the gun sight view, but suddenly last night the zoom out function has become "drob bomb"

I have been looking and there are three styles, desk top like the t16000m but its a big hard on the wrist.

the between the leg set up looks nice, gets the hugest raves that i can see. And the below the desk top mounts seem OK to a point.

For most feel, and realism what really works better? IF it helps right now i CAN afford one of the authentikit.org setups.

VIRPIL (sanctions allowing) and VKB are the two main higher-end setups.

For VIRPIL head to their EU site - VIRPIL Controls - Bases - Flightsticks - Shop (virpil-controls.eu)

Stick (base+extension+grip) + throttle + pedals will cost around £1,000 all-in though.  Or mix and match so have the MFG Crosswinds as pedals.

If your budget is below that, you're looking at things like the Thrustmaster Warthog or perhaps one of the less expensive VKB sticks - all good stuff though in the case of teh Warthog a bit of a false economy because you will want something nicer sooner or later,

the only aspect i like of the VKB is they have the "authentic" german stick handle...

I have been looking at the authentikit options, but it seems as good, and a lot lower cost but not alot of actual user commentary on them.

The authentikit options, are 3d printed and you assemble them yourself.  If you do not own a 3d printer they can connect you to someone who will print the parts for a fee.   Nothing wrong with this option, just something to be aware of.  In my opinion they are not comparable to other options out there.

There are no real options at the moment..

spend 600$ on a warthog setup, that may not even last 2 years.. and have a crap button setup on it.

spend 800$ for a virpil or vkb option..   wait an unknown number of months before they can send any. And still have to buy a different stick to use in the mean time.

saitek/logitech,,,  meh

"...that may not even last 2 years"? What makes you think that? I´ve had mine for dayly use for more than 10 years and have no problems what so ever!

I don't know about VKB's throttle stock, but I ordered a gunfighter stick in mid-January and got it in early February.

So why did you ask?

Given that this forum is littered with threads about various controls it seems a bit odd to ask for opinions then dismiss everything.

the fact that the premiere stick is going to be stuck in legal limbo for the forseable future dut to Ukraine and the start of ww3.  the premiere stick is the warthog, and i saw a few spots on here mentioning the wires/wire in the warthog stick going loose inside 2 years as a standard feature.

Virpil stock is held in Lithuania and is being despatched normally.

I've had the Warthog system for around a decade and not had a single issue with it in that time. But there are always lemons and individual uses that test stuff abnormally I guess.

one of the current threads mentions a loose wire in the base of the wart hog as a standard feature.

Im using a borrowed, under 2 year old t16000m hotas system, and the bugger is worn out. Bad inputs, inputs that switch around, nothing lovelier then having buttons re configure themselves on their own, etc.

Sure the warthog with price should be lots better, but if the companies classic most recommended joy stick cant survive 2 years of roughly 6 hours usage per week.

I remember a thread about a guy in the EU who was starting up making spit fire sticks for his friends to use, and then was talking german sticks.. Anything ever come of his endeavour?

Ergonomics is something that is making me think about the spitfire stick from authentikit. its hard holding onto the t16000m, and the stick is more enjoyable when i hold it like the gear selector in my car, over hand style.

Sooooo...... two nights ago I broke a piece of plastic called the "articulation sphere" inside the gimbal inside the magnetic base of my Thrustmaster Warthog joystick.  I've had this stick for all of six months, since July 2021.  This joystick replaced my Thrustmaster Cougar Joystick I bought in like 1995.  So now I have to rapid ship a new base from Spain to Canada because apparently in Spain the base cost $199CAD but in Canada they are going for $541 CAD (but hey, free shipping).  I like my TM equipment, but I can see why there are mixed feelings in the community.   It does seem like Virpil/VPC equipment have better and more robust internal components, and hence demand a higher price.

On the T16000 throttle there are kits available to upgrade the sliders like the following for $33.  Might be worth some googling.

Button function changes seems just weird and maybe something else.

when i get a new stick ill be taking it apart and making photographs for the world to see.  I think a critical piece in the stick broke off.

You can write Thrustmaster for a replace of the part. I did a year ago and it was about 15€.
