=MERCS=JenkemJunkie Posted February 23, 2022 Posted February 23, 2022 The spitfires handling feels very natural and intuitive, with the nose staying where I left it when I release the stick. Do any other planes have this same style of handling? I really dislike how the other planes flop nose down when I release the stick.
=MERCS=JenkemJunkie Posted February 23, 2022 Author Posted February 23, 2022 Naw, the spitfire showed me the light. I don't want to go back to the darkness.
357th_KW Posted February 23, 2022 Posted February 23, 2022 The P-39 has pretty marginal stability, as does the P-51 if you load it full of fuel.
=MERCS=JenkemJunkie Posted February 23, 2022 Author Posted February 23, 2022 Both those planes have positive stability. This link explains it better. https://www.boldmethod.com/learn-to-fly/aerodynamics/3-types-of-static-and-dynamic-stability-in-aircraft/
[CPT]Crunch Posted February 28, 2022 Posted February 28, 2022 Properly trimmed P-51 I can walk away and not even turn on the auto leveler.
=MERCS=JenkemJunkie Posted March 1, 2022 Author Posted March 1, 2022 I made a quick and dirty example of positive stability (F4) vs neutral static stability (Spitfire). I yanked the stick back and released it to the center for both planes multiple times in succession. Note how the F4 flops it's nose down after the pitch, and the spitfire holds it's position.
