WoolieWool Posted February 21, 2022 Posted February 21, 2022 I have been running a 1917 PWCG campaign in the Pfalz D.IIIa and noticed a major difference in AI between the two Entente energy fighters, the SE.5a and SPAD VII. The SE.5a AI are fairly good at using their strengths against German inline scouts and are by far the most frustrating opponents to face in the campaign--they boom and zoom and boom and zoom and are very difficult to goad into a turning fight. However, SPAD VIIs almost always go for the turn fight, and are more or less free kills for even a novice Pfalz pilot (and I certainly wouldn't call myself good). The 180 hp models are not really any more dangerous than the 150s because they don't fly in a way that makes their power advantage relevant. Could the SPAD VII AI be made to fight more like the SE.5a, using energy tactics like the plane was intended to be flown rather than using their weaknesses (turn rate, energy retention) against the German scouts' greatest strengths? 3
