When is the next sale?

Recommended Posts

I recently learned more about IL-2 Sturmovik and I am excited to see that it is just the sort of game I have been looking for.  I thought it was just an old game and hadn't realised that it is updated and added to quite regularly, nor that it had developed as it had.  It is seeing YouTube videos about it that has made me realise how good it is.  Unfortunately I appear to have missed out on recent sales.  The game and its components are not cheap and it would be foolish of me to spend a lot of money on these games when they are discounted from time to time, so please can you advise when the next sale will be?

Thank you.

Sales are quite frequent. I'd recommend you buy Stalingrad right now (you need it as the base for all the other modules) and play that until the next sale (buy direct from the store here, not via Steam, it ensures all the money goes to the right place). :)

You only need BoS as a base if you buy via steam…

Another option: Buy BoS on steam if you like it as a platform and afterwards buy every dlc you like from the website to support the devs…

If you buy directly from the website you can buy the module you are most interested in - no need to start with Stalingrad.

I guess the next big sale might be around eastern - but there could of course be one earlier

This. Let the way you want to play it determine where you buy BoS. Both Steam and standalone are fine, though there are subtle differences. Based on past forum posts, the standalone version seems to (very rarely) suffer from problems when updating, which Steam doesn't. On the other hand, there have been reports of the standalone version receiving updates a couple of hours earlier. That is not my experience as a Steam user, but perhaps it's related to your location (Netherlands in my case). Also Steam can update in the background, if you've got the Steam service running, while standalone only updates once you've opened the launcher. One major advantage of Steam is its option to validate the game files, which can save you a lot of time if the game got corrupted (sometimes updates/mods can have this result). The standalone version requires a full re-install in this case. A disadvantage of Steam is the extra clutter it brings although if you're already a Steam user this isn't much of a problem.

Lastly, there may be subtle price differences between Steam and the website store, again depending on your location. Also, the payment provider of the website store (XSolla) may be a factor in your decision; some banks may outright block it, and it requires a credit card (which at least here in Western Europe not everyone has) or a PayPal account, while Steam has a multitude of payment options to choose from.

I have Steam but for a long time my PC was borderline capable of running the game so I had to shut down everything that was not necessary. I certainly did not want the drain of having Steam running at the same time. I also started with Kuban and bought the other modules later.    One thing Steam does have in its favour is that if you belong to a squadron that all run it via Steam then it is nice to be able to see when a squadmate is online without first firing up the game and then go join him.

I would be very surprised if there was not a sale at Easter. I would suggest that if you want to fly online against humans then you should leave Battle Of Moscow until last as few of the online servers run maps for that period and the ones that do tend to have them up only a short while before rotating to the Stalingrad time period.  If you will be flying offline and like Russian aircraft then get it as the earlier planes like the I-16 and Mig-3 are great fun.

I think they’re great fun to shoot at with a Bf109 F-4!

If you intend to play from Steam, you can view the sales history on SteamDB, for IL-2 will most likely happen in April this year

If you manage to get it on sales, Battle of Bodenplatte is the one offering more diversity of planes.

From p38 to Me262 to Bf109k4 to SpitfireIX to Tempest to P51 and P47, those planes look and feel sooo fundamentally different that for me it is the most complete package in terms of diversity in flying experience.

I have indeed!  All I have to do now is fix the graphics glitch where things keep going black when I switch between things.

I'd argue that BoBP is actually the module with the least diversity between planes. All aircraft are high-performing late-war fighters, and most can strap one or two bombs under their belly. The only really different ones are the P-38 and Me-262; neither of them because it's not a fast fighter aircraft, but rather because of their means of propulsion (two-engine and jet).

If purely diversity is concerned, I'd say BoM is the best choice, with a pre-war fighter, a couple of more modern fighters, a twin-engined heavy fighter, an attack aircraft and two bombers.

SCG_Tzigy has kindly given me a free license for Battle of Moscow!  What a good fellow!  I am very, very grateful indeed.

I look forward to learning to play the game and in due course adding to maps and planes.  It looks like I will have to get a good graphics card to get the best out of it.

or Kuban: different fighters of decent performance, two nice medium bombers, one of the best and one of the most wonky ground attackers and the sexy 110 G-2

If you buy BON

You will not get to play much. It's not out yet. And a lot of people have done that.

Not understanding the concept "prebuy"

right now!

If you intend to complete your collection, buy the Premium version not standard +bonus planes. Premium versions give you the best price per plane.

Hey guys related to the sale. A friend of mine wanted to buy Stalingrad but he can only buy as a gift even though he does not have BOS on his account.

anyone encounter this issue before and knows how to fix this?

You can fly the aircraft as they are released for one. If that doesn't tickle your fancy, then you should wit until it is complete. The "early access price usually last after the official release. In other games, early access means playing a buggy game or nothing at all.

Where does the payment go? To Russia? Without SWIFT?

Our payment system is connected to our Cyprus based company and has nothing to do with SWIFT.
