Fw190A3 official 4k Skins ~ Lost & Found, well sort of.

G'day 

 

Yesterday I mentioned that I discovered that the Fw190A3 official 4k Skin for the pilot Leonhardt "fw190a3_skin_02.dds" was in fact using the same skin as that found in the Fw190A5 selections for the pilot Hondt "fw190a5_skin_11.dds".

 

For my own sanity I decided to correct this error, so in the interim (as I hoping that it will get officially addressed in due course) I've created my own Leonhardt A3 skin. I know there is already a Leonhardt custom skin available, and although it was quite nice it had a few issues that I could not overlook, I'm not in any way trying to suggest that mine is anyway better, just better for me.

 

So using ICDP excellent template, I have attempted to from scratch create my own rendition of this scheme, again the purpose was mainly for my own use, however I have also decided to release it here for others if they wish to use it as well.

 

For starters here is the politically correct, historically incorrect version:

Historical

Skin: fw190a3_skin_02.dds

Not so historical (Faux Haken)

Skin: fw190a3_skin_02_faux.dds

You will need to delete the _faux from the file names to get these to replace the defaults, and you may have to create the directory "\swf\il2\worldobjects\planes\fw190a3\skins\" if it does not already exist.

 

Others = \IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\graphics\skins\target folder\?????_skin_*.dds

Thumbnail = \IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\swf\il2\worldobjects\planes\fw190a3\skins\

 

Please note: the skins were created using Nvidia's new Texture Tools plug-in for Photoshop, sadly I have not been able to confirm the optimum settings for this plug-in thus far, I've not seen any issues with the skins myself, however please do let me know if anything seems off.

 

 

To get these to function as defaults skins remember to make sure mods is checked, as usual any problems just let me know.

Well let that be a lesson learned, it pays the check the content of the extractions from time to time to see what's changed, turns out the Hondt ~ Leonhardt skin mix-up was indeed corrected.

 

So I have now historically corrected the the official skin and updated the links on the fw190a3 post, find it here!

 

I have also noticed the Hondt skin has also had some minor corrects and the colours are different from the old skin, so I will historically correct this newer skin and upload it too shortly.

Fixed skins fw190a3_skin_05 and fw190a3_skin_09, was the same issue as with the A5s, where as the skins had been altered since when I did the A5 batch of historical corrections last.
