A thanks to Requiem

I have been watching many of your videos (weasel 65 on UT) and today it paid off; I was behind a 109 in my La-5 and quite a distance away so I hit boost but was just gradually gaining on him when suddenly his aircraft skidded sideways and I was suddenly on top of him and about to over shoot.  Reaction and what I learned from your videos kicked in and I yanked the stick backwards and barrel rolled over top of him, coming down with him off my left wing in formation.  As I still had superior speed I repeated the maneuver and this time when I came back level the bandit was in front of me about 200m...the pilot ended up eating several 20mm cannon shells.

I know for a fact before watching the videos I would have flew past him and put my Lagg into a right hand turn, and probably would have eaten his 20mm rounds instead.

BRAVO ZULU for your great videos.

I'm playing that in my head and it's a beautiful sight. Nice work and yeah, props to Requiem for all his top-knotch content.

Well tried it again, dove on a 109 but came in too hot so tried the barrel roll, but once I completed the roll I couldn't see the 109...but the cannon shells slamming into me let me know where he was...KIA.  The one time I wasn't recording so I could see what I did wrong.?

Cheers Chris, it's good to hear about your success story in the first post, but I guess that means I'm at fault for your death in the second post too! ?

For Requiem: I've only started playing Il-2 seriously in January and I've found your videos a great deal of help. Salute!!!!

His videos are great. Whenever I fly a a/c for the first time, I look for the video. I also practice his BFM for hours when I first started flying.

Additional complimentary resources are these "flight schools" campaigns and this navigation mission

Another hearty +1 from me!  As a private pilot, I appreciate his CFI style approach to demoing each plane.

And, his TrackIR profile is top notch as well!

LOL - Yes all your fault, can't possibly be mine?

Last night in bed I kept running through the dogfight, I am sure when I dove on the 109 my speed carried me past him as I pulled up and rolled, so in fact I rolled in front of him, that is the only explanation I can think of.

Yeah too much airspeed will get you killed. We've all misjudged things like that and overshot, presenting ourselves as an easy target. Sometimes ensuring you go idle power very early or performing a forward slip will help prevent you accelerating too much leading to that situation.

Requiem has provided plenty of help here and here. You just need to put in the time and practice.

It is the videos that Requiem has done that have enabled me to do the climbing barrel roll x 2 which in fact allowed me to get on the 109 tail.  The second time was my fault completely for charging in like a drunk sailor (apologies to drunk sailors).

Lots of help out there, but as JimTM states, you have to practice, remember real pilots spent hundreds of hours practicing before entering combat (allies that is), we would be more like the very late war German and Japanese pilots, "here is how you get off the ground, no go kill someone!"

Im a better bomber killer then i am a fighter killer.

My sense of preservation has made me better at evasive flying then i thought.

The AI pilots must REALLY suck if i can  dust  a pair of p47-22's

Or what about diving straight down to overspeed in an La-5, having your elevators break off, and doing a 700kph auger in front of everyone on the MP server? One of my favorite, and personal BEST maneuvers. On second thought, my virtual burial was probably pretty easy. ? ?

I have been practicing bomber intercepts via the videos, trying to do an S attack but 90% of the time my rounds are far behind the bomber (I use tacview to review my attack, very helpful for that).

Bombers are fun to play with, but the only way to do it honestly is the 2 on 2 option. Otherwise its just like taking an e7 against the polikarp
