SShrike Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 Based on true physics, should a pilot really be able to hear an approaching aircraft engine from inside the cockpit with his engine at high revolutions??

In a high speed pass on an airfield in a fighter the engine sound inside the cockpit is just terrible. You have 1'500/2'000 hp roaring at 2mt from you and in a metallic plane that is like an amplifier. To that you have to add propeller noise and the fast airflow around the plane. The Pilot has his ears covered to protect from the sheer noise. No way he can hear anything. Maybe if you put the siren against the windshield he may hear something ? . 1

I was tank commander of a 600hp IFV. When the engine is running and you have your headset on, there is not a lot you will hear over the engine. Of course the radio and the guns. But even when unbuttoned you don't need ear protection when the 20mm is shooting. Only in the older versions, I experienced at the beginning of my time as TC, the turret machinegun gave me absolute thrills, when shooting, as its muzzle was about half a meter from my left ear and the high frequency of its firing was absolutely anoying.
SShrike Posted March 29, 2022 Author Posted March 29, 2022 I hope this is addressed in a future update. 1
