Jorge_S Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 Hello, question/ help related to BOS soviet dynamic career with the LA-5 In my German career, I usually like to play with "average"/ "medium" difficulty, and kind of role play to follow the mission scripts, even if they put me on disadvantage (e.g. staying at relatively low altitudes, usually in the 2km height). I normally rule the skies with the F4 and only have problem with the F2; which is a total dog, IMO: can't climb, can't turn, not fast enough With the German, I play defensive if I get the F2, I play offensive if I get the F4, so far so good, but then moving to Soviet; I really like the LA-5; but the problem is it is totally outclassed by the German F4/ G2 available in BOS: I know I am faster in the deck, but I can't outclimb and specially not turn against them. Add to this the AI loves turn dogfight.. which means that my squadron mates gets into turn fighting and get massacred after a few minutes, and then I have to face several 109s alone, or more likely run away. Question for experienced players: how do you deal with 109s? I know it is critical to keep energy, so I am already avoiding sharp turns, and going vertical, but even in the vertical the 109s are better climbers. I can obviously use speed to run away, but that doesn't help me completing missions. And this is the AI, so I cannot "surprise" a pilot with diving from high altitude/ high speed because the AI knows I am there and it very good at deflection So far what I have done is to change difficulty to "novice"/ "easy", but then it all becomes too easy thanks
Chris65 Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 That is strange, I have only flown the La-5 so far in BOS and I can out turn the 109g each time. The La-5 had great turning ability and was faster than the 109g (La-5 402mph/sea level vs 109 338mph sea level)(La-5 386 mph@ 16,400' 109g 387mph@22,970). From WAR PLANES vol 3, page 131 "close to the ground it was at its best, many Luftwaffe fighters stalling and crashing when attempting to follow it in a tight turn". Are you perhaps turning at too slow or too fast of a speed? (best is 270 for tightest turn, see IL2 Compare). Maybe skidding in an uncoordinated turn? I find it turns on a dime, better than the Hurricane IMO and rolls with ease, in fact to check my 6 I just barrel roll, it stays in a straight line and doesn't porpoise and stays the same speed. Not much help, just surprised to hear of your troubles, I hope you get it figured out.
jollyjack Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 Just tried out the La5Fn; got five E7s, but it seems you cannot out turn them easily ...
messsucher Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 E7 is very very different than G2. E7 is nimble, G2 is a crate.
Jorge_S Posted February 17, 2022 Author Posted February 17, 2022 E7 and F4 are nimble, the best in maneuverability for a 109 G2 is slightly better in turning than the LA-5 at sea level, but I can see not by far The career is in BOS (so early LA-5, not the FN); and I don't know the typical ratio of F4s to G2s in Stalingrad, probably I am seeing more F4s; I am also still seeing E7s; with Romanian crosses (which is super cool -- I might end buying the Romanian plane) And this is from "IL Aircraft comparison"; which is posted in the forum and what I am doing now is to alternate difficulty; basically I put novice/ easy to do some kills, earn medals, cash some $000s of rubles for vodka and girls, then I move to average to run for my live and/ or get hurt 1
jollyjack Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 (edited) Unless the IAR is really good i am not into buying more fighter type planes. Rather see other types like especially waterplanes, Yeah! Or player vehicles, and hopefully player ships. Infantry IMO = a must with Normandy. Edited February 17, 2022 by jollyjack

Player ships I just cannot imagine except maybe for landing crafts, like amphibious tanks or landing troop carriers as a collector item. These are simple crafts and easy to model a player version with one or two gun positions. It is still work to do but at least not more complex than a collector vehicle. Destroyers, Cargo ships, tanker, submarines, are way more complex and I cannot imagine it would ever be considered. One main reason for this is that we are in a high quality sim, so you cannot trade-off and have crude and simple ships. However personally I would love to have a collector torpedo launcher fast-boat that I can drive. That would be an immense fun to attack destroyers and other large ships. 1

I would reserve floatplanes and flying boat for the Pacific game... hopefully coming sometime soon; I don't think they were too relevant in the maps we have; maybe pushing it up a bit in BOK. I would like more planes to enrich a campaign, like having all planes that were historically available during a specific time frame would be awesome, Like for example having the I-15 and Ju-87B for BOM and BOS. 1
Giggles Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 looks around scared... Hmm i have a hard turn with sharp turns in an e7 when i am running at 350 kph...... that mean i be stupid?

I usually find our short control sticks make it too easy to throw far too much control change far too quickly and without keeping turns coordinated. Feed changes of direction in gentle and use the rudder to keep turns coordinated. In summary, Go easy on the stick between your legs it is shorter than you think, you'll wear it out and she'll respond far better to a smooth hand ?
