Firstly because I can reach out my hand and 'flick' a switch without touching the mouse, and secondly because I don't have to memorise a shedload of hotkeys or buttons to perform different actions. It really makes clickable cockpits a joy to use. I also find that it makes it much easier for me to learn a new cockpit, but of course YMMV. Before any other considerations I am not even clear that the kits are ready to ship upon placing an order. Beyond that this seems like the equivalent of having to attach a TiR device atop my HMD and then some. Just beyond overkill for most WWII aircraft and the devices appear to be variably effective depending on the particular sim. For my needs the kits would approximate a Rube Goldberg machine. If I have to be concerned over new multiple potential points of hardware failure how can that increase my sense of immersion? YMMV.
Blitzen Posted March 1, 2022 Posted March 1, 2022 One step at a time& the VR beta is pretty much that first step, but finger tracking if it ever comes along would be sweet! 1

If I got it correctly, the officially registered VR beta testers in the Dover series could, at present, from now, test at least one or two already existing models of VR headsets that are ready for finger tracking in a game like "Cliffs of Dover - Blitz".
Boomerang Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 My wishes in addition to VR, (besides finger tracking which would be great also), would be a few more polygons around the cowlings on the Bombers so they appear less dodecagonal some day, (especially with the visual work in progress to date). 1

I may be wrong but I think the above problem should be fixed as soon as our aircraft and cockpits are all in 4k resolution. Developers may confirm if whether or not this is correct.

Polygonal effect is more pronounced on Wellie spinners in the 4k video.

I assume the terrain and scenery are in 4k, not the aircraft. I think TFS publicly shared screenshots of 109s, Spitfires and C.202s in 4k... but not Wellingtons. If my above assumption is right, then we need to wait a bit more before we see a Wellington in 4k.
9./JG52_J-HAT Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 4k textures are just that, textures. Unless TFS redoes any models, the Welli cowlings won’t be changed by having higher resolution textures. Or any other 3d models for that matter.

You mean that, with the arrival of 4k, the 3D models in the game won't see any increase in the number of their polygonal edges? You mean that, when the 4k is released in this game, if I zoom on the circular diameter of a Spitfire spinner, I won't see more sides than the number of sides I see now? (I call "sides" the number of polygonal edges used in the 3D model of the aircraft in the game, in this instance intended to visually represent this circular element which is the spinner's diameter).

Correct, since 4k textures only means textures will be 4 times larger what they are today (2k - right click any of the default skins that ship with the game and look at the properties). Unless “4k” has been given as a generic title for some major overhaul, which I don’t think it is. Check the last post here: I remember another topic going into detail about improving models with just mapping, but couldn’t find it now. Don”t think it applies to things like the cowling.
343KKT_Kintaro Posted March 2, 2022 Author Posted March 2, 2022 Thank you, J-Hat, for both your response and the link. I won't buy a 4k monitor nor a VR headset before a loooong time... but even if the 4k implementation affects the textures only, and even if I keep my 1920x1080 monitor and TrackIR... I think me and guys like me, I mean with similar equipment, will take advantage of this implementation anyway. I look forward to zooming on a 4k cockpit, I hope I'll see the difference.
9./JG52_J-HAT Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 Regardless of your resolution, look out of the cockpit and pay attention to the writings and lines on wings. The 109 is a good example. With the smaller texture the writing is blurry. Imagine that 4x bigger. It will look awesome.
343KKT_Kintaro Posted March 2, 2022 Author Posted March 2, 2022 Yep, sure, J-Hat, the external view of the aircraft is visible FROM the cockpit and 4k textures will apply to the external views as well. Thus, visible FROM the cockpit... I know. Looking forward to discover all ot this.
Dagwoodyt Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 Given what's already on their plate I wouldn't expect the polygonal outlines of rounded objects to be addressed at anytime in the forseeable future. Hopeful about the visual updates that are in process tho lack of trueSKY videos remains an enigma. 1

I did mention that on the recent 4k landscape update, asking why it didn't show any Truesky features....... "that's for a later date"...... But over two years since it was announced and a few screenshots posted, I would have hoped videos would be posted by now. Edited March 3, 2022 by Mysticpuma

Dagwoodyt Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 (edited) Whatever the cause it seems like implementing trueSKY has proven tougher than was anticipated. Edited March 4, 2022 by Dagwoodyt
