Avimimus Posted February 6, 2022 Posted February 6, 2022 Heyo, So... I started out with flight simulators and I value precision. I was always horrified by gamepads when I borrowed them by the lack of control provided by the thumb-sticks. However, I've now been playing more non-flightsims (The Outer Wilds, Hellish Quart etc.) I've started to wonder if gamepads might be useful? Until now I've just used keyboard and trackball. So any advice? What is the best controller for someone who is used to joysticks (or keyboard and trackball)? What wouldn't disappointment me? Or should I continue to turn up my nose?
CountZero Posted February 6, 2022 Posted February 6, 2022 I use logitech f710 and f310 for years and no problems with them, just remenber to recalibrate them from time to time in your pc game controler, proporties...
Confused_2018 Posted February 6, 2022 Posted February 6, 2022 Sorry if you have already seen these: If you ave a 3d printer or know someone that does, there are these 3d printable add ons. https://www.youtube.com/c/AkakiKuumeri Tuuvas has posted a number of videos for dcs, but perhaps they may give you an idea on setup? https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=flight+sim+tuuvas

I hadn't seen either of those! Will do. So I take it there is no general favourite in the sim world? But these work well?
paul_leonard Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 This is a very funny thread. I must be too old school. Live your best life.

Its no suprise, most kids play games on ps or xbox, so flying with controlers is normal for them, also drons are geting cheeper and more popular in last few years and they use same type of control, and its more convinient to start with as most likely you have controlers for other games so no need to buy anything extra... if flying sims are main game you play then youll probably have stick and pedalls, but if you play all kined of games then most likely you have gamepad already so its good way to start. paul_leonard Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 I have to agree with you. I have console systems too. I prefer controllers for FPS games, and pretty much everything else, on both consoles and PC. But for the same reasons, the hardcore FPS players will go on about the keyboards they use and Cherry MX versus Brown and the best mouse with the highest DPI and whether it should be wired or wireless to get the best performance. And they would probably poo poo controllers in many cases. These forums are arguably where one ends up when one crosses the line from casual to hardcore and are chock-a-block with hardware discussions and what is the best this for that. I just find it funny that someone found their way here with a controller. Refreshing as well. And perhaps a sign that a sea change is coming. I should probably try it for a lark, but I'm also too afraid to mess up the key mappings to all my controllers that I have invested so much time setting up. Sad face.
