Due to how I saved the originals or due to the forum there is some banding in the images DUE TO COMPRESSION not from the game. I will try to fix these images, but in game this does not happen.I will make the original uncompressed images available.Uncompressed Originals Here Jason You know, the game looks gorgeous as it is already, the scr*wed up images look even better, and the uncompressed images look utterly divine. Good work and have a nice weekend! 1
JG27*PapaFly Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 Awesome! As a RL pilot I pay much attention to the sky and clouds. These are important factors for many decisions taken before and during each flight. The banding and simple clouds were a major immersion killer for me. Great to see both addressed. 1
Danziger Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 These screens look amazing. While we are looking at the sky, would it be possible to correct the size of the sun and moon? There is a mod, but it would be great to have it stock. 1 3
Bonnot Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 Congratulations !!! I'd appreciate some short infos on the conditions ( and hardware ) , it looks high tech added to real artistic skills ...
senseispcc Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 Nice, pictures, realism and perfection nearly at his maximum. Thanks, I am happy of any progress, but this one is making me very optimistic for the future of IL2.
Ala13_UnopaUno_VR Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 You are making il2 magnificent, normandy is going to be incredible. A recommendation, the stars, Moon and Sun and Stars, seen from Virtual Reality, are excessively disproportionate in scale, if they could be equal in 20/30% smaller, they would seem more Realistic. 1 2
IckyATLAS Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 The uncompressed images are excellent. The moonless night is extremely realistic. The contrast between the blue sky and the countryside is perfect. The blue looks much better and the image is crisp like in a very clear day without haze. This technology is really the way to go. And if you fix haze and fog with the same quality as the clouds and this new skydome then you will have nailed it. A small comment here, with the new clouds the rain and rain showers between blue holes in the cloud cover are light years better than before, Thumbs up. 1 1

BladeMeister Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 Awesome looking! Nice work Gents. I am glad you posted the uncompressed pics because I was looking at them in the DD and saying 'WTF'? Those pictures really look stunning and I can't wait for you to incorporate the new sky tech so that I can retire the banding fix mod which I currently use. Will the new sky make it into the next update or will it be relegated to a later update? Speaking of updates, any tentative(STC I know) release date for it? Just want to say I am really enjoying the whole GBS now and each update seems to move the series forward by leaps and bounds. Keep up the Good Work Team 1C. S!Blade<><
J2_Bidu Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 (edited) The uncompressed ones look even better, indeed. I would get rid of the lens effect. It's kind of unnatural. Otherwise things look really great. Good job guys! Edited February 4, 2022 by J2_Bidu

Maybe call it stereo vision, but while one eye does not see the sun through the solid object, the other still does. That's my take on it anyway. I like it. S!Blade<>< 1
Avimimus Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 I don't know about this... lack of banding? I don't know if I can handle a flight sim without it... it is part of how things should be! The only thing I have ever known! I suppose I can always go back to SWOTL if I don't like the improvements: [ 3 12 1
Spaz-505 Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 Thanks for sharing Jason, the results look awesome!!! Of the 4 flightsims I fly regularly, MSFS DCS X-Plane 11 and IL-2, the work the team has done with the clouds & weather is the best I've seen amongst these, and by quite a margin! The addition of the sky will further separate them from the others! Since the new clouds were released, all of my missions have significantly been enhanced and the realism skyrocketing! Here is a screenshot from one of my missions that really shows off their work... the visuals are stunning!!! ... I'll end with a couple wishes... B-25 & the Pacific 2 1 1
[DBS]TH0R Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 Looking really good! I do hope this also helps with spotting against a clear blue sky.
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 We're in the middle of an ice storm here. Please, there is no need to add it to the sim.
FlyingNutcase Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 What great news! The (uncompressed) images are stellar. Really great that the environment is being looked after, so to speak.

Jason_Williams Posted February 4, 2022 Author Posted February 4, 2022 Test. Maybe .pngs won't have the compression? Jason 2 5
LuftManu Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 (edited) With the uncompressed ones you can see a difference as clear as night and day (pun intended). Looking forward this! with the new clouds, we needed such change too for the sky. ? Edited February 4, 2022 by LF_Gallahad 1
Nocke Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 Very nice! I almost do not dare to ask - but will the nightly banding on water surfaces also be gone?

Jason_Williams Posted February 4, 2022 Author Posted February 4, 2022 I changed all the images in the OP to .png format so compression should be much less now. Jason 1

Missionbug Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 Excellent. That U-boat shot, awesome, the night is coming. Take care and be safe. Wishing you all the very best, Pete.

=FEW=Hauggy Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 Please fix the damage model lol Nobody cares about how good the graphics look if its not fun.
Alan_Grey Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 Beautiful.. Beautiful.. BEAUTIFUL !!! Thanks
1CGS LukeFF Posted February 4, 2022 1CGS Posted February 4, 2022 Great work! It's cool to hear about the plans for haze and dust - I was just reading an account from a Soviet P-40 pilot in Black Cross / Red Star about how cold air could affect visibility: Quote The weather was absolutely ideal for those free hunters. The cold temperature, minus 30 Degrees, created a haze that reduced horizontal visibility, and the sun shone mercilessly. 2

After a closer look at the images - yes! There also seems to be no banding anymore on the sea either! Maybe it was actually the banding in the sky getting reflected by the water? Whatever ... really looking forward to night missions again. Thank you!
Gambit21 Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 I love to see how this is all coming along - great job team. Looking gorgeous!!! 2
2/JG26_rudidlo Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 (edited) Someone deleted my post without telling me why. I would like to have fixed sun visualisation, I'm happy with sky as it is now. Edited February 4, 2022 by 1stCL/rudidlo 2
=BES=Senor_Jefe Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 It looks like everyone here is stroking the devs......ego? So I'll play devils advocate. Please note: this isn't a huge gripe, but slippery slopes and all... I look at anything with a performance impact as a big red flag. Speaking from the VR community, it's often completely irresponsible to buy a new GPU for 400% MSRP. So I like to determine the cost/benefit of the enhancements. So now for the controversial statement: IL2 is not a weather/sky simulator. It's a combat flight sim. There are still TONS of improvements to make to the flight/combat aspect of the game that I question this enhancement. It does not improve combat or flight; only making things prettier. Sure, eye candy is important, but if your primary concern is eye candy, go fly MSFS and enjoy your 15 FPS. I question the priorities and the resources spent here for something that won't enhance the core function of the game. Disclaimer: I am not at all unhappy with the game, and will continue to be a staunch supporter of the experience. I only hope that this criticism is viewed with an open mind rather than the cultist-like attacks we sometimes see with anything perceived as negative today. 2 2 5
