My only criticism (in the other thread) was limiting it to owners of the DLC, as I don't think it will produce the most dedicated VR testing team given that most of them will already be happy playing in 2D mode.

Yesterday I started this thread in the Great Battles forum, and the thread asnwers your point quite well: there are VR users who in the past, or even recently, purchased Tobruk to bring their support so that VR comes faster to the Dover series...

Seems to me the ideal procedure would be if .jpg of HMD' SN wouldn't be required prior to acceptance in the "closed" beta and requirements of participation timewise and regarding scenarios i.e. SP and/or MP were described in initial acceptance PM. A prospective participant meeting the Team's requirements could then submit SN documentation fully aware of what to expect before making the commitment.

I just pm'd over my sn on the off chance, I've no idea if I'll be accepted or not or exactly what will be required of me taskwise or time commitment wise.

if I can do what they want, I will, if I can't I won't. :)

I can't imagine it will be any more difficult than testing and reporting back with guidance on occasional dpecifics to note or ignore.

if they need jpgs of my cat and my kneecaps then fine.

I do realise that some folk really do need info given to them in advance but my point being is that it's really not needed across the board and I'm not sure there's *one* ideal way to do it that will suit everyone.

me? I prefer a "casual" no pressure experience as I can't always commit 110pc all the time every day.

ymmv!

Indeed, the attitudes of some are a bit strange to say the least. "Intrusive data collection" was the phrase that made me laugh. ? Intrusive how? It's a request for those volunteering, not a demand on us all. And what exactly do people think can be done with a product serial number anyway? Someone might submit your warranty verification for you... oh no!! ?

Getting public volunteers to test your product is hardly a new concept either... Steam's Early Access programme, anyone? The point of both EA and this beta test is that they are entirely optional... you can join in, or not. Nobody is putting a gun to your head, so if you don't like the idea of helping create a better, less buggy product just because the devs will get money in the end and you won't... then don't bother. No big deal.

My only criticism (in the other thread) was limiting it to owners of the DLC, as I don't think it will produce the most dedicated VR testing team given that most of them will already be happy playing in 2D mode. But Buzzsaw's explanation of why this is the case (it would require multiple betas) does make sense, so that's fine by me. I'm happy to wait and see how it goes before making a purchase decision. ?

I agree that it isn't really intrusive, but it's irregular and unnecessary. I have a G2 and photographing the serial number doesn't really work because of where it's located. Mine isn't legible in photos. I had to contact HP to get a revised cable and they wanted the serial number. After sending half a dozen photos and none of the numbers she'd half-guessed working, she gave up and put it through.

If it's difficult enough for HP to bin the idea and risk that they could have been erroneously sending out a free cable at their expense then I'd think it would be enough for the guys here. Unless the intention is for nobody to test it on a Reverb G2, of course.

Sadly I can't seem to join this as I am able to send '0 messages' so cannot PM Buzzsaw -  not sure how to end being a New Member which i think is the problem.

Привет Вы должны использовать Google Translate для любых вопросов. Я не говорю по-русски... хотя у нас есть русскоязычные участники сообщества на форуме ATAG, которым вы можете задавать вопросы.

We will contact you via email if you are unable to submit through the forum.

Hello to all those who have submitted:

I have received nearly 200 requests to join the Beta.

Obviously I don't want to send out 200 individual replies which I then have to monitor separately.

So I will be sending out group email replies shortly.

One will be to all those who have qualified... the other will be to those who had difficulty submitting info on the message option on these forums and will need to re-submit via email.

200!

that's quite a number! So pleasing.

I think that shows, although not ideal for all, that the application process isn't as poor as some made out and it's also lovely that acknowledgement has been made towards those who can't easily get across the requested info.

regardless of frustrations this puts the devs in a good position to organise then test with a wide variety of setups which then filters back to us who may not get to test in speeding up the entire process OR enables a deeper more thorough peek at VR which will benefit us all.

I really hope VR gets released to the pub and is as good as the teasers show!

Please can someone tell me how to attach images in a message to buzzsaw on here? I only have the option to add images from a web link, but that doesn't work for me using onedrive...

Thank you in advance! Annoyingly I can see on this you just drag images below, but the private message doesn't have the same option!

Well, if you are a VR pilot and want to do The Battle of Britian, this is kind of the only game in town.

It's fascinating. For such a critical piece of WWII air war history, it does seem like a period very flew flight sims tackle.

Yes, the CLIFFS engine does a really good job of handling huge formations of aircraft... better than most Sims.

And of course, that is what was seen in the BoB.  ?

In our next TF 6.0 release we hope to replicate some other events in WWII aviation history which also saw large formations of aircraft.  ?

Tantalizing. Very excited to hear where the team wants to take the engine!  Especially if the VR implementation is on par with Great Battles.

The developers have already clearly stated why they require the serial numbers. The example they used even featured the G2 so it appears to be entirely necessary for efficient development and bug catching. As for irregular, many, many pieces of software, including games, collect data about the machines they are being used on. That includes things like serial numbers and product codes. (How often do people actually read the full T&Cs and PPs of their software?) Blitz obviously doesn't, hence the need for manual submission.

Then take a photo of your headset with the forum post on your monitor as a background, and put the serial number in the text of the PM you send. I'm sure they won't be so pedantic that they insist of clear photos, especially if it's a problem that affects all those using a particular headset.
