What fighter-bombers did the RAF use for in the Italian Theater?

I know they didn't have Typhoons.

It depends on the exact dates, but at various times Hurricanes, Spitfires, P-40s and P-51s.

P40s were quite emblematic as RAF ground attack fighters in Italy

Thank you! I recall seeing some stuff about the P-40s in Italy, but it seemed like they had been mostly retired by the actual fighting on Italy proper. I knew there were mustangs eventually but I assumed those weren't around until the very end generally.

The US used A-36s and P-51As in Italy from 1943 to 1944. But I don't think the UK/Commonwealth used them there.

Are there particular dates or battles you’re interested in?  I have all of the “Mediterranean Air War” series by Chris Shores - war diary type works that detail every loss and claim, day by day etc - often even with serial numbers for the aircraft involved.

The RAF had a few P-51As they borrowed from US forces (early in 44 I think) and then got Mustang III’s later in 44 and Mustang IVs in late 44 and 45.
