Mysticpuma Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 325th Fighter Group Guncam footage - simulated with IL2 Great Battles. So after my recent video of the "Fearsome Fouraome" I was able to capture a variety of guncamera footage from the incidents recorded. All of this footage was captured from. P-47 attacks on various targets. I have spent a bit of time trying to make it look a bit more authentic. Edited with Adobe Premiere, this edit includes film grain, exposure variation, different colour graded film, gun firing pipper, 4:3 format, lens slight defocus, lens vignetting, camera jitter..... just a whole host of techniques to try and recreate some authentic looking footage. Anyway, here's the result, I await your verdict! 16 1
FTC_Woop Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 This. Is. Brilliant. Well done. Riveting watch! o7 1
Drum Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 (edited) I concur, that looks just like the real gun cam footage I've seen. The part where you're strafing the train which explodes and the cam is yanked (pun intended) skywards really showcases the game's damage model well! The exception being those armor coated trees... JG1_Vonrd Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 Stellar MP! Peter Jackson's got nothing on you. There must be many hours invested in this. A couple questions: Were the some of clips done prior to the update that reduced / removed the ricochets? I think the ricochets really add to the realism. Was there an artistic reason to not have the gun cam footage in black and white?

Rjel Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 That was excellent. Some of the views, like the close up of the P-47's machine guns firing, were unusual and very well done. 1 1

Black and white, slightly re-edited version : While I like both the color and the B/W versions, I think the B/W is really convincing. If it was on Periscope Films it would be difficult to say that's not authentic. In this actual footage from P-47 ground strikes I see that there are triangular centering "crosshairs"?, "reticles"?, I don't know what the proper term might be. Also, you've simulated the rectangular thingy popping in and out. Do you know what the purpose of that is? EDIT: I found this statement here: https://aviation.stackexchange.com/questions/73556/in-ww2-aircraft-where-were-gun-cameras-mounted-and-did-they-suffer-performance: On some systems the camera could be set to run only during firing or could be run independently and there was a little flag that appeared in the upper left corner of the film image and lifted out of the way when the guns were firing and dropped into view then they weren't. Regarding the ricochets, I guess I'm mistaken. I don't see much evidence of them. Maybe just a few possibly bouncing off of armored vehicles. What I thought were ricochets are actually AAA coming up at the attacker (starting at about 3:30). Edited February 3, 2022 by JG1_Vonrd 1
