dburne Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 I must say, I have been very impressed by what I have seen here today. I had the original IL2, followed by Forgotten Battles, then Pacific Fighters and finally CLoD. Due to the problems with the latter, I really did not start playing it much until after the final patch. I am certainly excited about this new partnership, and seeing what the Battle of Stalingrad brings us. I am very hopefull for the future of the series, much more than I was a couple of weeks ago. I had taken a peek at Rise of Flight some time ago, but I am more into the WWII era so really did not seriously look into it. After seeing the news, and the communication here on these forums today, and some videos, I am certainly motivated now to give it a try - and a good time to for me, with the holidays coming up. It is so nice to see the level of communication here, and now know what to expect for the future, at least for the next in the series, which will be the first of what hopefully will be many releases to come. Best of luck to all involved!
gibbage Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 The RoF team I think have proven themselvs worthy many times over. Im not a fan of WWI sims, but RoF was done amazingly well. I think the IL2 title is in the right hands. Plus im sure the .50 cal will get a fair DM
Freycinet Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 God yeah, you were the original 50 cal whiner back in the old Il-2 days when the P-51 came into the sim, weren't you? Hehe, fun times... :-)
Kling Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 I seem to remember that Gibbage and the P-38 had a connection in original IL2...
1CGS LukeFF Posted December 12, 2012 1CGS Posted December 12, 2012 (edited) Gibbage! P-80 for Stalingrad! LOL! I remember meeting Gibbage at the Chino Planes of Fame Museum so he could photograph their P-80 and some other stuff. Edited December 12, 2012 by LukeFF
gibbage Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Yes, I am back, and im really glad to see you made it through your service LukeFF! Just a short list of what I did in IL2. P-38 P-63 P-80 Go-229 PBY Ki-43 Spit Cw-21b I also orginized the 3rd party group later on when Ilya left, and even later on I helped do mods like the solid nose B-25, and early P-38 models. So ya, I have been around the block a bit. Im also the champion of the .50 cal, but Oleg would never give the Ma-Duce a fair trial. For some reason, he felt the .50 cal was the worst gun ever made. Here are some highlights of that. And remember, the .50 cal was the ONLY GUN with dispersion in the game. It also had no incendiary content at all. Thats over 200 shots into the wing of a Betty bomber, an aircraft well known for being flammable, but no light. Man those debates were good times. =) Brings me back!!!

Bearcat Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 Me too.. I just hope and I actually feel confident that some of the same issued will not be around.. like the issue with eh 50s that gibbage mentioned.
gavagai Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 Im also the champion of the .50 cal, but Oleg would never give the Ma-Duce a fair trial. For some reason, he felt the .50 cal was the worst gun ever made. Tony Williams (http://www.quarry.nildram.co.uk/) is another one who does not have a high opinion of the .50 cal Browning machine gun, mostly due to its high weight. The American Browning .50 M2 is an undistinguished performer, particularly when compared with its closest competitor, the 12.7 mm Berezin. The relatively small incendiary content in the .50 API (0.9 g instead of 2 g) gives the Soviet round a flying start, which it adds to by its usefully higher rate of fire, then finishes off in style by being lighter as well, and thereby almost twice as efficient overall. http://www.quarry.nildram.co.uk/WW2guneffect.htm
Krupi Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 +1 Hope BOS Lives up to the old IL2 name in quality And COD immersion quality.
