Tactical Air Command (Historical Squadron/Group)

All,

Recently back into the cockpit after a hiatus, I have been brainstorming ideas for a Tactical Air Command based on the IX TAC under the Ninth Air Force in the ETO with the upcoming addition of the Normandy/Channel map.

I enjoy the immersive and roleplaying aspects of simming nearly as much as the flying and combat itself. I envision a command consisting of a realistic organization of units under a centralized command like the Air Marshal feature: a fighter group  (consisting of two fighter squadrons and possibly a photo recon squadron), a bomber group (with three squadrons) and possibly a transportation/supply squadron.

I would love to take part in realistic missions using historically accurate (or fitting in line with the real thing) radio callsigns, squadron insignia, rank structure, kill claim verification/reporting and nose art. I have drawn a mock up unit organization for two fictional air wing detailing squadron/group make up, A/C codes, callsigns, rudder and nose colors etc. for what I envision.

I understand the number of pilots required for such an undertaking is large and know virtual squadrons struggle with attendance due to a myriad of things. I am gauging interest and gathering thoughts, as I had not seen much on the topic other than a little bit in regard to the future Air Marshal feature. I know there are numerous squadrons that cooperate on both sides of the war during campaigns and flight nights, maybe a consolidation of like-minded squadrons on flight nights on a slightly more organized scale.

Look forward to your thoughts and input,
