Riderocket Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 Is it possible to view the SRS overlay in VR using Open composite? I could use VRToolKit thing but they all use Steam. 2 1 2
Youtch Posted January 21, 2024 Posted January 21, 2024 Especially to see which players are connected to which channel.
Broadway Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 Can be done use openXR , and then Openkneeboard , add TAB “ capture window” and select correct window in SRS
Oboe Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 I desperately want this feature. Are there more detailed instructions available? I cannot follow these as is. I did find these instructions via a Google search and used them to apparently make apps I run with SteamVR use OpenXR, I think: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How do I make SteamVR my default OpenXR runtime? Under Advanced Settings, click Show. Click Developer. Check if Current OpenXR Runtime is set to SteamVR. If Current OpenXR Runtime is not set to SteamVR, click SET STEAMVR AS OPENXR RUNTIME. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- However I don't have a kneeboard. I searched the keyboard settings and there seems to be no command to bring up a kneeboard in IL-2. I poked around in SteamVR settings, developer tabs, etc and found nothing about a kneeboard.
Oboe Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 UPDATE: I feel I'm close to getting this to work. Using clues from Broadway's post, I've set SteamVR to implement OpenXR. I searched for and downloaded a third-party app called "OpenKneeboard" and installed it. I was able to successfully add a new tab as a "Capture Window" tab and was able to capture the SRS Radio overlay. I can now see the overlay inside the game in VR when I bring up the clipboard using the key binding I've assigned. I've got it positioned in the cockpit where I want it, and it zooms to a larger size when I look at it (nice feature). However, it's just a static image of the radio overlay - it doesn't actually show any activity like who's currently speaking, the indicator light does not light up when I press PTT, and the channel selections do not reflect any changes in the channel that I make. If I take off my VR headset (Reverb G2) and look at the app's window on my monitor, I can see the SRS Radio Overlay inside the Window Capture tab I created and it is dynamic, showing the ID of the current pilot transmitting, showing when I press PTT, etc. But back inside the game in VR it is just an inert image of the radio overlay. I've experimented with OpenKneeboard's settings, fiddling with different settings but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I also consistently get a warning from OpenKneeboard about it running as an administrator, or running "elevated" (this was OpenKneeboard's own default installation setting) however when I select "Run as Normal user" I still get this error. I've checked the apps shortcut properties, and "run as administrator" is unchecked. This will be such a gamechanger in VR, to be able to see who's talking and what radio and channel I have selected. Thank you in advance for any help or debugging advice you can offer!
Oboe Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 I *think* I've got this solved - problem was apparently SRS Radio was being run as Administrator, not OpenKneeboard. Was confusing because the SRS error popup was placed on top of OpenKneeboard's window, leading me to believe it was an OpenKneeboard error msg. Needed to read the text more closely I guess. I am so impressed with these applications. Combat Box with SRS and OpenKneeboard is a great multiplayer sim experience. 1
Oboe Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 (edited) UPDATE: Turns out I still experience the problem of the radio overlay not updating unless I run IL-2 in windowed mode, not Full Screen. This seems less than ideal as I lose between 10-20 fps in VR. Can anyone else confirm my findings that in VR, IL-2 in full screen mode will interfere and prevent realtime updates to any window-capurted tab in OpenKneeboard? Edited March 22, 2024 by Oboe
Broadway Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 Just looking at this, sorry i have been travelling a lot recently, the Openkneeboard program with Open Xr will allow you to capture the SRS window that shows who is on line in SRS , i am still away so detailed instructions not available but i do remember you need to capture the right SRS window, also there used too be a reasonable FPS hit in doing this but i noticed this improved significantly a few months back, but even if there is a hit you can toggle it on or off if FDPS is an issue at a given point in the game , so in summary Opencomposite Open XR Openkneeboard, seu up to “capture window”, and then with SRS running and the window open for showing who is on line 1
