I play Il-2 on a 49" curved monitor. Looks great, especially with Track IR. I'm sure more and more non-VR people will be getting these huge monitors as the years progress.

But I have one problem and would like to suggest a software change.

When I fly as a Russian or German, I miss most of the radio chatter. The translations fortunately appear on the bottom half of the left side of the screen. The problem is that the far left of my screen is about two feet from my eyes, which are usually fixed elsewhere.

It would be great if the radio chatter text boxes could be moveable so you could adjust them on the screen to a better location. Even an old game like WOFF allows you to adjust the position of some info boxes, if displayed. That's one of the reasons Windows 11 moved things from the left corner to the center.

If not, it would be great if one could adjust the time that the messages remain visible.

I threw together this little mod a couple years ago that may help you since you wont have to read the messages. Some people find it useful and it can be used with "modes Off" mode

or_hud_rad = 0.30000
or_hud_size = 0.50000

Stick those values into your graphics startup file and they'll be closer, you can make them even smaller and closer if you want.  I use these in VR, doesn't block the whole front view and still nicely readable for me.

I am not so sure about that. I tried once the asus 49" curved monitor and was very disappointed. You see I play on an LG 42" flat 4K UHD monitor which is in size the limit at least for a flat version. This means that I have a 3840x2160 pixels. The size is 95 cm x 53 cm. When I go to the curved asus 49" I have 3840x1080. First I have less pixels and second I have the feeling of playing looking through an horizontal slit. When you are in a cockpit You need to have vertical surface covered and horizontal. In combat fighters things happen all around so the more surface you have in front of you the better. But it has to be curved indeed. The curved monitors  like the one of Asus may be ok for certain game types but I wonder if they are ideal for flight sims. It lacks the vertical immersion. The ideal curved monitor I would immediately buy (if the price is not absurd) would be a 5760 x 1980. On the basis of mine in terms of size that would make a monitor 142.5 cm wide but curved (which makes it more compact on real width), and with  48 cm height. That would be perfect.

i agree with u , i tried acer 43'/4k(Va)  LG 48'/4k(oled) and acer 37.5  (ips) . i thinl 43' is better , but if it can be widescreen it  will become perfect . but at last i still chose the 38', coz ips is really better than Va or oled (without hardware Gsync). waiting for the perfect monitor for il2 bos .

I love my CRG9 @ 5120 x 1440 with TrackIR. Better than VR in my opinion!

I'm using a 23" 1080p monitor but plan to:

- option 1: bring my other monitor from home to my current place. It's a 32" 2560x1440, widescreen 16:9.

- option 2: buy a 29" 2560x1080, ultra widescreen 21:9

Need advice and opinions on widescreen vs ultra wide. Using TrackIR and VR is not an option.

I would choose option 1.

I've 34" ultrawide screen and the resolution is 3440x1440. It is a wonderful screen but if I would need to buy a new one I would take regular widescreen.

Your image is usually more limited in the vertical when compared to regular widescreen. Ultrawide is sometimes a hassle with other games and support for ultrawide should not be taken granted.

I went from a 32" 16:9 to a 34" 21:9

Resolution  aside, I'll recomend you option 1

The ultra wide aspect is nice,in fact I really like it. Specialy in il2, Arma3 etc. But the "aparent size" is smaller that the number might sugest.

At first I was a bit desapointed that my "new" 34" looked smaller(thinner) than my old 32". In your case, I dont recomend downsizing from 32" to ultrawide 29".

If it was the other way arround, from say a 27" to a 34" I would say yes.
