Request for feature to Allow downloading of skins when you join multiplayer server like old IL-2 and 1946.

In the old Il-2 games when you joined each server you could download all the skins each player were using in the current match. This way you could have tactical advantages by picking an appropriate skin. Now if you join and run a custom skin, anyone that doesn't have your skin already installed just sees the default skin. This means other than enjoyment of making skins there is not much point to using custom skins in multiplayer. This would not be a resource heavy request for the developers. And would certainly bring much joy and functionality to multiplayer servers. We as the player base ask that this ability be added to your game.

 Thanks in advance.

The bandwidth required simply will not allow DLing 4k skins.  It would be really cool, but it's simply not possible.

I'm not in that "we as the player base."

Nice idea but wouldn't use it myself because it will be exploited for sure. I'd hate to see rainbow colored airplanes, false markings and such.

Oh yes, I remember in the old sim, when one of the "JG" squads figured out how to make all Allied planes appear in bright pink skins.

NEVER AGAIN.

No thanks, servers are struggeling enough as it is with complex multiplayer scenarios

As I remember, there was mention about the possibility of user made skin packs being introduced some time ago. I’d think that would still be a possibility. I’d like to see a larger selection of official skins to choose from.

Things like this don't bother me.  Sometimes simmers are just too bloody serious.

Using default skin manipulation to cheat is another matter though

It might be more reasonable to ask if it would be feasible to select one of the default game skins to load and than do a custom skin in place of that specific one.  That way you could pick an OD green game skin and also select your OD custom art version of it, and not be forced to fly exposed in bare aluminum by default.  Also forced to fly a summer skin on a winter map when using a custom.

It would be fantastic to have more skins. But players have figured out how to cheat with custom skins by making their own aircraft transparent or coloring the enemy. The only way skins can be cheat proof is for them to all be official. RoF had the best system for this with user-contributed skins provided in official DLC packs. But that’s not happened here which is too bad. In RoF every player had easy access to a multitude of really great skins.
