Hi =, I have just purchased the VKB SEM and THQ to go with my NXT gladiator which the modules are connected two. I'm having some trouble with the 8 buttons on the THQ module. The VKB software designates these as buttons 66-70. However, in IL2 the game recognises these as POV_0 to POV_7 which is then clashing with the POV on the flight stick. Does anyone know if this a limitation with IL2 or away to get round this?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

The limit in Il-2 Great Battles Series is 64 buttons per usb-device. Cliffs of Dover already has 128 buttons per device.

VKB software is far away from being intuitive.

There are 2 options:

1. buy a GNX USB Controller (HID-Main) per side-module or

2. use this Guide for split your setup into virtual controllers - wich is not easy to manage

I hope for 128 button support in Il-2 GB

Shouldn't that be in his Gladiator NXT?

Yes there is one but then you' ll run into the limits. It's gettin' worse when using shift-keys. So one usb controller in every side extension means 3 usb controllers with 64 buttons each in his setup.

I have the same setup.  I am fairly new to gaming and only fly Janes's (not anymore really), and various iterations of IL-2.  Not very technically savvy either.  I had not heard of Vjoy so looked it up.  Would that be the same as using VKB's config tool to separate the SEM and THQ into virtual controllers?  Originally, I added just the THQ and it worked fine.

I only encountered problems when adding the SEM, so I presume the 64-button limit is the issue.

So, I was able to use the "guide" referenced above and created the virtual controller that should allow for the extra buttons to function.  However, I cannot get the game to "recognize" this additional controller.  It will only allow me to map those associated with the main controller.  Any suggestions?  As a side note I have discovered the rockers on the VKB SEM work really well for flaps while the flap lever is basically useless.  The landing gear lever does work, albeit not like it should.

Cannot tell You, because i wait for my next order at VKB to buy 2 USB-HID controllers for the SEM and the THQ and try a different setup to get rid of the button limitation.

Run "joy.cpl" in Windows to show the recognized controllers.

What do You mean with "rockers" ?

The problem with the flap lever is more on sim-side. Il-2 Great Battles doesn't have a "flap-axis" while Cliffs Of Dover / Desert Wings have one to assign.

Il-2 1946+ have it too + 128 buttons per device. In DCS it depends on the aircraft and has way more options inside.

You can imagine how hard it is to find a way for all 4 sims.

I'm trying

I am referring to the two K switches on the VKB SEM.  Sometimes called rockers.  If you bind these to flaps they allow complete control regardless of aircraft type.  You can press and hold until the desired flap setting is reached and then release.  A second press continues the process from the last setting.  Perfect.  Of course, I will have to find another use for the flap lever.

Yes.  It sees both and all buttons are working.  I also unchecked all the boxes in steam controller settings as per recommendation.  All to no avail.  BOS will still not let me use any of the buttons or the single lever (fuel mixture) on my second (virtual) controller.  The other two levers on my VKB THQ are shown as part of the main controller and are functional.  Just not the buttons or the third lever.  That lever is an axis, whereas the other two are sliders according to the VKB software config tool.  Not that it matters.

COD Blitz will allow me to bind functions to all buttons and axes with no issues except the flap lever.  As to the gear lever: after several attempts I was able to bind the gear lever to "up" and "down" as buttons 61 and 63.  Haven't had a chance to test this yet, however.

Thanks for your help.  Will try VKB forum to see if anyone has a solution.

The Flaps and Landing Gear knobs in GNX SEM are set for default as analog axis.

Using VKB DevCG you can change the Flaps knob for work as digital  buttons, including can change the lever behavior, from 2 to more fixed positions, changing a piece internally.*

So this knob became compatible with Il-2:GB flap system. Same for Landing Gear knob, if needed.

Maybe this was changed, but my SEM came with the three detents blocks installed and set as digital three button switches. I removed the blocks from both and changed the setting to analog axis, but currently use them as buttons for opening/closing canopy and feathering props. I find it to be nicer with them moving as levers.

What I wonder about the video, at the beginning it says, the K-switches also can be set up as virtual axis. How that?

I was about to say the same thing.  I managed to get the gear lever to work by making it a toggle.  Works in BoS and CoD (Except for the P-40, and possibly others, which need two button presses because it goes to "neutral" before raising/lowering in CoD for some reason).  Continuing to research that.  I am looking into switching the flap lever to an analog axis to see if this would work.  In the meantime, the K-switches work quite well for flaps.  No idea how to convert them to an axis, though.

On a positive note, I solved the problem with BoS not seeing my virtual controller.  I discovered a file called Devices.  In that file I deleted all but the most recent controller.  Seems every time I tweaked my set-up in the config tool without actually being in-game it saw that as a new device.  Apparently, it has a limit.

All help appreciated.  Thanks!

As a result, short presses can be used as buttons, long presses can be used to reset trim axes.
