I currently have a 1080ti.... and just for giggles looked on Amazon after I put in my vote, and found a "reasonably" over-priced 3090.  Gee and only 1 left!  Sure...that's no obvious pressure tactic.  So I figured, what the hell it's only money, I will make more to spend on the next over priced video card. ?(Noting the 3090ti is right around the corner soon to disappear from a retailer nowhere near you.) ?

Problem is I can't change my vote.  Not that, that would make much difference.  Seriously, the only difference I care about is the smoothness of flight in VR.  well....that and the next gen of VR Gear.

Something that surprised me - the Steam page for Battle of Stalingrad already lists:

"Graphics: 4GB VRAM or better"

That kind-of shocked me a bit :) I'm certainly getting by with less!

I bought a MSI RTX 2080 8G 2 years ago then the 3080 comes out at a much cheaper price before all the gpu craziness happened and at that the 2080 was still higher so i'll work that thing until it begs for a quick end. It would have been worth the cost if it would at least do my laundry besides its graphics duties but no.. it won't lol. So far it has zero problems running any game I play although I only have to hit 60hz as thats my 4k monitors refresh rate. I game in 2k, record in 4k. The recorder does take a few frames from me. A minimum of 2 gigs vram is still old tech these days, at 8 gigs vram that I have is much less than the gamers I game with. Btw the new sky looks beautiful. Is this update live? I want go flying just as soon as it is.

I hope you verified the seller because "1 left" to promote a frenzy and "reasonably priced" screams scam to me!

RTX 3080 (10 GB VRAM) + 32 RAM.

I thing is enough for this sim for next few 2 years (what do you think?).

For flat screen, yes, for VR nothing is enough.

Using a Nvidia GTX 950 series, and I see you haven't included it in your survey.  I guess that tells me all I need to know about my hopes of stuttering issues being resolved.  I don't fault you guys at all; you have no choice but to keep up with the state of technology and I'm clearly behind.  It's just frustrating because the game ran FLAWLESSLY two years ago when I bought it, but the past 3 months or so (ever since the cloud updates began) it has been completely unplayable.  Sucks for me.

There's no finer compliment I can pay to the work you guys are doing than this:

I bought a new computer this week just so I could continue playing after you guys update the graphics.  Going from a GTX 950A to a RTX 3070 (went ahead and indicated such in survey).

Keep up the good work, and thanks for all of it!!!

I feel you should just have two downloadable engines. One as 'Low detail' and another as 'High detail' yet both engines are cross-server-multiplayer. It may seem Pointless though it will always offer a solution to those with computer setups that cannot play on the High detailed engine. As it is I can play il-2 1946 and il-2 Battle of Stalingrad on the same FPS. Bombing missions are quite playable though Fighter operations are a challenge. Though I consider this only a matter of quickly releasing then quickly regaining control of the viewing mouse. Once it was prohibited as near object detail in dogfighting reduced me down to 6fps. Now with 16gb of ram as opposed to the 8gb's I had earlier and frame rates above 10 fps and I see dogfighting as a rewarding possibility. I play with a PS4 controller as this is a challenge and I can perfect the techniques.

I feel this is important as many Pilots will be flying on the SteamDeck only. In which case there are no rudder pedals. As the game is an endless learning curve and I feel if I can display the correct gaming techniques and button setups which work then I have fullfilled my purpose.

Yours Truly,

I want to add my thanks to keep the Vram low over the years. I been with you since the 1946 days and upgrade my tower twice I still run 2 760 nvdia gtx SLI for 4g and it works great. Upgrading my monitor dell 2716dg with gsync and you keeping the vram low has keep me current and be able to zoom and spot aircraft with no fps issues. If you do upgrade the ram, I am considering upgrading my tower. I have a personal 6 year cycle so its nearing that time. On the other side, if you keep it low to attract other pilots at a lower cost point, I am good with that too. When I can't spot aircraft or targets, or my fps bothers me, that's my signal to upgrade

I am using a Nvida 860m with 2 Gb. But I will upgrade after I retire in the next 6 months or so.

I'll be waiting for next gen card and prices and availability before doing any upgrade.

for REF a 3080 series card is over $2000 locally.

Also If visuals settings  impact spotting in mplayer , that would really not be fun.

Thanks for your ongoing work~!

Tough policy decisions ahead, so good luck!

3080ti here.

BTW, there was some discussion earlier about a new engine, if introduced, hurting people with older cards.

I have a new 3080ti and I can run IL2 all out and get 144fps @ 5120x1440.

I got around to trying the older Rise of Flight. Guess what? It runs in the 90s!

Seems to me that the newer engine, IL-2 (2013), is easier on my hardware than the old RoF (2009) engine.

Maybe it's something peculiar to my rig. Anyone else fly both and see similar numbers?

Posted

I use an Nvidia GTX 850M (graphics card for gaming laptops).

Please please please do not obsolete my card, otherwise I will have to give up IL-2 and I have put a ton of money into this game.

I limit the games FPS in the Nvidia Control Panel. After much experimentation I discovered I don't really need over 60 FPS. I get a few stutters when the game is loading in new assets to VRAM but I have the distance draw settings maxed out. Once I have been flying around and seeing everything, especially close towns, it clears up mostly.

Game runs well and my GPU is usually between 45-60% usage so the video card fans are pretty quiet.

I dont have any complaints as far as image quality other than those slight stutters which could just be settings on my end if I cared enough to do something about it.

I would rather see more content and just keep polishing the engine you have, I think the game looks fantastic. I play just to record it and spend more time looking at the replays.

Just nitpicking... having cards like 1080 and 1080ti on the same spot could be misleading, especially those two have MASSIVE performance differences, probably bigger than 1060 - 1080. It's similar with the 2080 and even the older 980.

Also, for those still rockin' a 970, there's no 3.5 GB option, just sayin' rdlaugh.png

I love how some people voted 5 or 7 GB though awesome.png

BTW I'm amazed of how many 30 series cards there are since they're basically impossible to get - or so massively overpriced that it would be outright stupid to buy one...

Well the question was "or are planning to get in the near future". I've been planning to get one in the near future for over a year now! :)

Nearly all my squad mates fly VR now, we started together over 15 years ago in IL-2 sporting TIRs.  Keep up the fine work, and hoping that the VR realm will only get bettter with each new release.  Specs are in my sig: full up FS rig here, the 3080 Ti was my VR buy-in and no regrets there (actually bought it off the shelf at a local computer store, lucky me by chance I was shopping there the day they just got a new shipment in...no lines, lotteries, prebuilts or scalping).
