Radeon HD7850... Thanks for keeping the system requirement growth so modest over the years! It would be good to provide a legacy branch for people who can't afford to upgrade (especially given the current market or in countries where purchasing power isn't as great). I'm glad this sim has remained accessible.

That said, I understand a system requirement increase may be necessary at some point. I've been imagining some future setting where people with higher end rigs can check a setting box and get more active aircraft per flight or some more detailed calculations (although I assume that would all be on the CPU side of things)!

Thank you for the survey.

With the graphics card crisis, I'm unfortunately forced to stick with my old GTX 980 while playing VR... ?

I hope to get an RTX 3080 or an AMD 6800 XT one day if the prices become normal again

PS: Will IL-2 ever be compatible with Nvidia Geforce Now?

I also have to wonder how representative forum users are of the actual user base for this sim (we definitely aren't representative, just like the multiplayer crowd is quite a bit smaller and different in focus from SP). It'd be fun to do some research.

Steam survey results might help as well to show some trending data for a wider gaming audience.

I need it to be specific to our products. I have asked Steam users to come here to participate. Simmers represent both ends of the spectrum. Both the most tech savvy and early adopters and the most stubborn who don't want to upgrade. I think you will see that represented in the data, but we shall see.

Wow, wasn't expecting so many 3080's! I'd buy one if I could find one, find one for less than a grand that is but that ain't gonna happen in the next couple of months ?

I'm already surprised at the number of 3080 cards in the survey.  Only one of our group has one, and he had to buy a complete computer to get it.  Two of us have 2070s, and the rest have 980s or 1070s.

So I'm stubborn eh? With my 2 GB card? It replaced my 1.5 GB card when it died... I got the original back in 2011 for Cliffs of Dover ?

I'm just surprised I've managed to keep it going.

Just wanted to put this out there, as there are probably others in my situation:

I would consider my current GPU to be the bare minimum for a playable VR experience, and due to the current crazy prices and my own financial situation, I am not in a position to upgrade for a while. Any significant increase in performance requirements might render me unable to play, if the change is not something that is optional.

I have immensely enjoyed this sim over the past few months; the recent updates to graphics quality and performance have made this sim a truly breathtaking experience! I would hate to lose that until I can afford a new card.

Hi, Jason thank you for your interest. My data, Nvdia GTX 1060 - 6GB VRAM are in the poll.

My opinion: given the present high prices of the video cards and the short supply of CPUs, I don't think it would be wise to increase the specs of the Sim, forcing people to invest a lot of money to revamp their PCs with such high-end new cards. Please leave some time for the hardware market to stabilize and reduce prices back. For sure you can improve the Sim in other aspects not requiring a new video card.

Just my 2 cents.

Cheers

The fact we have so many higher end GPU users should be indicative that the poll is not trustworthy.  It will be heavily biased towards the sim nerds who don't mind spendging thousands on their hobby and who are also very active on this forum.

Is there no way the devs can ask customers to allow a quick system survey when they start the sim?

Hi Jason

RX590 -8 gigs

Running Oculus Rift S on it..

By the economic situation of the country and other factors like the lack of videocards here, i'm not planning to change my card until the very last moment.

Nice, a fellow GTX 1060 6 GB user! I get roughly the same frames, but in my system the CPU is the bottleneck.

You may be jumping the gun a little. Depends on how high they are considering raising the bar, but a 1060 with 6GB ram may still cut it. Just to remind that the current minimum gpu spec is GeForce GTX 660/Radeon HD 7770 with 2GB VRAM.

My personal opinion is it's high time they raised the minimum spec. But they could push it up a fair bit and you would still be ok.

I don't have a mega-card myself gtx 1660 Super, but I welcome this news.

Guys, relax, your 1060s with 6 Gb won't suddenly become obsolete overnight.

I will probably upgrade my 1080ti this year (if I can get a card for a reasonable price ?) but probably not in the next 3 months unless something comes along that really gets bottlenecked by it.

No problem if IL-2 is that something.

DD 305 continued...

EVERYONE PLEASE TAKE THIS POLL

As posted in DD #305, we are working on some changes to the engine and it might require an increase in certain minimum system requirements. Especially in the video card category. So, we would like everyone to take this special poll below and answer the questions. This will give us some insight into what video cards you are currently using, or if you plan to buy a particular card quite soon go ahead and select what you are planning to own say within the next 30-60 days. We know upgrading cards right now is tough due to shortages, but we’d like to know where you currently are or plan to go soon with a new card to give us a snapshot. Thanks in advance.

Jason

Hello,

I am currently playing on an Asus GL503Vs notebook with:

- 32 GB RAM
- Geforce GTX 1070 8Gb.

Being on a notebook, I will not be able to change the video card.

Currently I play with the graphic options almost at the maximum and I have an excellent fluidity, especially since the last clouds.

If I had to have a performance degradation, not planning to change PC for 2 years. Financially it will be too heavy for me.

I will have to stop with BOX and come back to ROF to play properly.

Best regards

Many Thanks

We've all asked for improvements. Better graphics, larger formations, ect, ect. We can't even guess at this point what is in the works. But, I'd bet on it being an improvement we'll all benefit from.

Running a 3080 with 10gb of Vram and Vr with a valve index. Modest settings without supersampling. Gpu Vram usage fluctuates between 8-8.7gb. So, despite a 3080 there’s not alot of headroom in vram for the vr-crowd.

If upgrading the engine gives us large formations of B17's or B24's, long contrails and Mustangs weaving above them.... I'll take the short term hit to see the long term benefit ??

I see the problem - on one you want to integrate new technology into your product - on the other hand there might be players who got BoS on a 2013 PC that barely runs it and who would be very unhappy if they are suddenly unable to run the game.

one thing to consider: there are mobile versions of many cards that are lass powerful :)

Check ANTONLINE.com.  They have single card or bundled card offerings.  Pricing is semi-sane.

I got my card (3030ti) bundled with gaming keyboard, gaming mouse, 850w PS and i7 12700kf.  It works for me as I anticipate building another box.

It‘s not graphics that hinder large formations- it’s AI computation. That’s why the game turns into slowmotion with intact frame rates. Unless they intent to compute AI with the GPU in future graphic cards are less important for the formation size.

My personal guess - especially with the question about VRAM I would guess something like object render distance- but who knows? :)

1060 with 3Gb VRAM. I must confess I'm a bit afraid, although I understand the game must progress. I would like to buy a new PC, and although I can afford it, with actual market prices I would feel I'm being abused. ?

I use an RTX 2070.

I would love to upgrade to a 30-series.  But at this rate, the market will have to wait until the 40-series is out, so that crypto nuts stop buying and inflating all the 30 series, before the general game community has access to them.

If you're looking to design the next requirements, I'd base your mid-range on the 10 series, high-end requirements on the 20 series, and not even build in to the 30-series capability, because it won't be available to gamers until the 40 series comes out.  We would all love the game to continue improving graphically, but until the card industry figures out how to make new technology accessible, standards will have to stay 10 years behind the recent tech releases, in order to meet the capabilities of the community.

Right now, however, waiting for new graphics cards to be priced and available for accessibility by gamers, and not miners, is like waiting for Kerbal Space Program 2 to be released.  Sure the trailer was out 4 years ago.  But you won't seem them until you're in a nursing home.

The Nvidia and Radeon have no idea how to get their cards in to the hands of actual gamers at a reasonable price, sadly.

Hi from Adelaide South Australia. I have played IL2 from the very beginning, and it is still my favourite WW2 flight sim.  First ever forum post.

I was running a 1070ti but recently upgraded to a RX6700XT Hellhound. Got it for AU$900 (Gulp!), runs IL2 beautifully.

Eagerly awaiting my Arado234, love the Tempest, typhoon, and Me262.

Keep up the great work, much appreciated.

Yeah :) Saying a 6GB card won't become obsolete overnight is hardly reassuring when you are running on half that (or a third).

Amusingly, when I first got Rise of Flight it was because I'd downloaded the demo (it had one of those) and discovered I could run it on my machine - which was below the system requirements. I got the Iron-Cross edition and a few months later it was upgraded to a degree that I couldn't run it anymore, but I couldn't really complain - could I? I was below the minimum system requirements.

It did make me wish for a legacy branch though - the fact that the game updated every time I ran it meant that there was no ability to just keep the old version (which worked) running. So I'd definitely suggest that if the minimum system requirements do jump.

(That said, a few patches later it was usable again - and turning the shaders up actually made it run quite a bit faster - so I was able to keep it going for another year or so before upgrading)

what would the engine upgrade bring? better graphics? if so, how much better they would be (shaders, textures, etc)? How much of min spec increase we should expect?
