This is not going to teach me something about the game only but about aircraft mechanics, too :) It's a real necessity that you're filling here.

Was there also a manual for the mission editor released/updated recently, or am I remembering something that never happened? And if not, does anyone have a favorite source of information for learning it?

If you are thinking of the Advanced Quick Mission Generator, that's covered in Section 3.0 of the Operator's Manual.

If you are thinking of the Full Mission Editor (FME), see the "Mission Editor and Multiplayer Server Guides" section of the IL-2 Sturmovik Resources post.

Oooh - I'm glad I asked. You've got a lot of good stuff in this thread Jim. Thanks!

At the moment, they are only in English. I hope to change that if I can find community members or other professionals who would like to localize it into other languages the sim supports.

Great to see those new manual arise. Good job!

You can count with me for the Spanish translations.

Very helpful manuals - maybe I can convince some friends to take a second look at the GB Series :)

One sentence surprised me though:

“This setting does not affect the skill level of the pilots within your unit. As you choose a harder difficulty level, the AI skill
level of friendly flights will decrease, and the skill level of enemy flights will correspondingly increase.“

on Difficulty in careers, page 45 operators manual

I always thought the skill of your own flight was also affected by this setting - if not, does that mean each pilot in your own flight has an individual skill level based on statistics or rank? That would be very cool!

Great job!!!

The perfect third book for the trilogy would be the Pilot's Notes. It could include a brief guide of every plane (copy the description text you can read in the GUI, plus the extra possible configurations, comment about how to start it up, taxi, take off  best cruising configuration  best combat one, landing, etc) and link the tons of SUPER videos done by Requiem.

Yes, the pilots within your own squadron have their own individual skill level, and it is based on their overall experience & rank. You can see this when new pilots are transferred in: some of them are brand-new guys with 0 hours flight time, and so their skill level will be at the lowest level; others will transfer in at a higher rank and have flight time already accumulated, so those guys will have a higher skill level. This affects not only missions in which you fly but also missions that don't involve you - the generated results are based on pilot skill, number of pilots assigned, rank, loadout, etc.

Awesome news - as squadron leader I I usually tried to mix vets with newbies out of roleplay reason - great it actually affects gameplay!

This is fantastic, it's exactly what I needed, explanations for all those keybinds, and it's written very clearly and plainly.  Thank you very much!

Loooong overdue but finally the most essential info is in one place. I appreciate that.

It might be a good idea to create a pinned topic on Steam discussions leading to the purchase and installation manual, it is not uncommon to see questions about this. Especially since these questions are likely to multiply with the sales that are going on right now.

Yes - and upload the other on steams own UI as manual so the average user finds it quickly

As a new player who's also relatively new to proper flight sims - THANK YOU!!!

I'd pretty much ignored IL-2 after trying the original 20 years ago & being completely overwhelmed by the complexity, particularly with the lack of guidance available. I only decided to buy IL-2 BoX after finding there were so many great community guides around but having so much game info laid out so well in a proper manual is incredibly useful. I also think it will make the game a more attractive purchase for potetial new players so well done to all involved!

Just returned to the game after a 5 year lapse....lots of updates & changes...a stupid question:

Does the IL2-Great Battles Manual  Ver. 4.702c (PDF) info apply to my IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad game?

Thanks!

Hello guys,

First post here from an IL-2 beginner.

Are those manuals still valid and available somewhere? Both links direct me to an error page at Mediafire.

Thanks!

Links do seem to be busted - I hope that is fixed soon. Apparently, I cannot PM anyone as the original post instructs. In the meantime, Col Ninny scrolls through them in this YouTube video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOYDG_B3-Kc

Will work on getting them fixed guys, thanks.

When I click on the two image icons called FAQs above, I get this message:

" the file is no longer stored on MediaFire. This occurs when the file is removed by the originating user or MediaFire. "

So, where can I get these 2 FAQs?

Thank you in advance.

Guys, I've added the Operator's Manual to the original post. Will hopefully have the other one as well up at some point.
