Elusive Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 (edited) Hello, I experience wired problems where ASW is turned off, my quest 2 is running at 72Hz and I have 45-60 fps. Despite this I experience stuttering and ghosting when rolling and the ground lags behind ,meaning looking at the ground feels like 20ish fps. A similar effect is noticeable when passing enemy planes and they ghost or lag behind, effectively making them appear in double vision. This happens despite ASW being turned off via the debug tool. ASW on increase this effect noticeably. I’ve tried turning resolution down or refresh rate up but nothings seems to help. I run a oculus quest 2 on Max resolution, 72Hz, no SS or AA, 2070 Super, Ryzen 3700X, 32GB RAM, Settings on balanced/medium. Has anyone experienced something similar to this or knows any fixes? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Edited January 26, 2022 by Elusive
firdimigdi Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 Actually 45-60 fps is not considered high. Anything under your HMD's native refresh rate (the higher the better) will appear as you describe it if ASW is not used.
Elusive Posted January 26, 2022 Author Posted January 26, 2022 Even with default resolution and low settings it’s nearly impossible to maintain 72 fps, do you have any advice on how to achieve this? Nvidia Control Panel or Windows settings?
TheSNAFU Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 (edited) What do you have the resolution set at in the oculus software. Are you using steamvr or open composite? Are you using any super sampling? All these things will impact your fps in addition to game settings Edited January 26, 2022 by TheSNAFU
Elusive Posted January 26, 2022 Author Posted January 26, 2022 I use max resolution in the oculus app, no anti aliasing, no supersample, yes I use open composite. Lowering the resolution does not lose as much FPS as you would expect. I've found AA is far more taxing then upscaling the image and low res without AA looks like crap.
TheSNAFU Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 I don’t know what the performance of your cpu is but seems like you should be getting a bit better fps at least. Maybe drop the refresh rate of the Q2 to 60 and see if you pc can maintain that.

Try low preset and shadows off in game. Shadows are a big FPS killer. And double-check AA is off (especially MSAA). Maybe dial back clouds too if they are set to extreme.
=THORN=Sphere- Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Your CPU is where the problem is. Seems stupid as the 3700x is a very capable CPU (I use to have one) but the game doesn't utilise cores properly and not many of them. I upgraded to a 5600x then a 5800x3D. Saw a bump moving to the 5600x but the but the 3D of the 5800x and extra cores made no difference. Your max resolution will be effecting you too. I occasionally get frame drops and I run with Max 1.3x in the Oculus software on my 3080 Don't use steam VR, use open composite to take strain off your cpu. See attached for my in game graphics settings.
