How to make our own personal photo to fix in the cockpit (Solved)

Recommended Posts

Can somebody be nice to point me out how can we have our photo fixed on top the cockpit instrument panel. I searched for it but could not find any instruction about it.

I see that in the graphics/planes/Texture folder we have a custom_photo in DDS format. But it does not appear in the cockpit. Is there something to activate this feature. What is the process to make its own personal cockpit photo. I am sure there was a post about it some years ago but can't find it. Thanks.

There are mountains of topics about this in the Mods forum.

As I saw the custom_photo in the plane/texture IL2 stock release I thought that this option was included in game, and not a mod anymore.

I did search the whole forum but as you get after a search the typical message "Sorry there is a problem next search in 15, 20, 50 etc seconds" that's pisses me off after say two or three tries, my searching remains very limited I must admit. I hope that they will fix one day this and make of searching an effective tool, because the Forum is an immense database of IL2 Knowledge.

You better use Google. Just type site:il2sturmovik.com in front of your query. So if you're searching for "custom pilot photo", type "site:il2sturmovik.com custom pilot photo" and as a first hit you'll see the thread linked above :)

Thing is, Google spends more on research every hour than what IL2 spends in a whole year. There's no way the website search will ever be of even remotely the same quality as Google. If the Devs would completely stop making new planes etc., then in a year or so they might approach the search quality Google had 5 years ago. And not have released any new products in the meantime.

Thanks for the advice I did not know about this format for the query on google.

Regarding the existing forum search function, I absolutely did not mean that the devs must do that. I hope that they have not developed the forum software and its functionalities. I suppose you buy this type of software and you may get improvements over time. But this is not so important as google rules us all ?

Someone suggested this to me last week and it works really good.

Regarding the original question, it's not a mod

Replace the .dds file you located with whatever you want (correct format of course) and enable it in the plane settings screen

I have had mixed success just making a dds file from scratch of the right dimensions so what I do now is open the original default and past my own photo onto it, resize etc to replace the original then save that.

It needs a layer mask just like a skin file so the reflectivity is what you are looking for.

The dimensions displayed in cockpit don't match the full image size. You can use the stock cockpit photo to determine the display area for each plane.

Starting with the stock photo and adding layers to it to make a template works for sure. I use them like this...
