IckyATLAS Posted January 21, 2022 Posted January 21, 2022 (edited) Lidia Litviak was a woman that fought as fighter pilot on the front line during the battle of Stalingrad. She was an excellent and aggressive fighter pilot and so she was accepted and recognized by her fellow male pilots. She was even in recognition of its superior ability, given the right to go hunting for targets on her own. Her nickname was the White Lily because she had such a flower painted on her plane. She was also mentioned as the rose of Stalingrad, because she had a white rose painted on her plane each time she downed a Nazi fighter. What is real and what is myth I cannot confirm. When she was shot down she was just 21, and had a total of 12 victories. Her death is controversial because her supposed remains were never identified and it seems that she survived and was taken prisoner. The total victory number is also controversial and lower ones are mentioned, but I will stick to this for my skin. I could not find any original picture of here with a full plane where numbers could be seen. The only pictures of her that I could find are with a biplane U2VS that she flew first, and then just the open cockpit of a Yak that's all. So the number 44 is seen in some non original pictures. What is sure is that she was one of the great soviet fighter pilot of the war. But was recognized as Hero of Soviet Union posthumously very late by Gorbatchev in 1990. I made a skin that is "legendary" based on the above elements that you can find here in the link below: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AggNwB5PZgtYkGKyAScs5Wz44k6q?e=5y5FaU I updated the skin as initially I had used rose photos (grayscaled) to make the markings and frankly the quality when reduced to the 4K Texture size was not good. Too big sized white blotches. If we look as how things could be drawn in the field with just some paint black white and a simple brush, the roses where outlined most probably. So I reviewed the roses and used a black and white outlined one, and also toned them down so that the paint would not be too flashy, same for the yellow numbering. I have also reduced the size of each rose and I think that the result is much better and more realistic now than before. Again let me insist that this is a skin is as I say "legendary" or "plausible" and by no means is any historically correct one. Image with new rose markings Edited January 23, 2022 by IckyATLAS 6
IckyATLAS Posted January 22, 2022 Author Posted January 22, 2022 Interesting. We are both a nice example that if there is no original document to show how it was, interpretations can vary: Different type of Lily and where was the lily painted in reality? maybe we are both wrong. We have the same but different color of number, but Is the number even right? I think this is also a debate, I have seen other numbers associated to her, but probably she flew with planes with different numbers. How where the white roses painted on the nose? many questions and little answers. Hope that my DeepL automatic translator is good.
Regarding the roses the reference is in wikipedia french article on Lidia Litviak. I have put the link below: (Sorry it is in French) Я поместил ссылку ниже: (Извините, что на французском) Lidia Litviak — Wikipédia (wikipedia.org) Edited January 23, 2022 by IckyATLAS

Soviet pilots always painted their victories over the enemy on board with stars or crosses (like American pilots). WHAT roses, what nonsense? 1
IckyATLAS Posted January 23, 2022 Author Posted January 23, 2022 Excellent initiative to make a film on her. Let's hope they can reach enough funds to make it. Thanks for sharing this info.
IckyATLAS Posted January 23, 2022 Author Posted January 23, 2022 (edited) Many things about her may and will remain unanswered as witnesses disappear and memories fade, but one thing is sure, she wanted to remain a woman with its femininity in a completely male environment. She loved the flowers and this seems undisputed. Reading various reports it seems she painted once a white lily but also maybe also on another occasion a white rose. It is correct that the soviet pilots put red stars for each kill but we will not know for sure what she did exactly. I would be ready to bet that she may have painted one or two roses for her kills just as a difference to her male comrades that put red stars. And I am ready to bet also that due to her success and respect that she earned she would not have been blamed for that. The Soviet Union needed Heroes so why would her superiors make a fuss of such little details in a period where they needed results and she was excelling at that. A great pilot against all odds.
